World of Warcraft did that to me before I gave it up. Civ IV did for a while. Final Fantasy II will trap me every now and then.

The most recent game for me was Zelda: Twilight Princess. Pretty much every Zelda game has consumed me when I've played it.

Any C&C game, Bridge Commander, Sim City, Doom3, Max Payne

Currently it's Fallout 3..

That fucker has cost me many weekends now and some evenings after work too!

It's always "Oooh.. let me just do this little sidequest to get XP/this nice gizmo/more weapons" and this eats into my personal free time.
I don't think i have bothered with the main quest for days now.. this game is huge and i gave barely explored half of the world.

That's the way I played Oblivion and am currently playing Fallout 3. Just explore and do side quests until there's nothing left to do. I put over 100 hours into Oblivion before tackling the main quest.

When I first played Fallout 3, I kinda rushed into the main quest and left half of the game's world unexplored. On the second try I'm visiting every single location, exploring every single building, metro station and cave, collecting everything that can be collected and then I will do the rest of the main quest, the parts after fixing the GNR (because it's better to listen to Three-Dog then to that crazy president). I'm passed a 20th level a long time ago, have a few places left in Washington DC itself to explore (mainly metro stations) and only then I will finish the rest of the main quest.
