Victoria Jennifer Johnson (The Ladies' Thread)

Gee, I'd love to talk about women's issues here in this thread but, as there aren't any women here, I won't bother.

I tried invading the men's thread but they only seem to be talking about beer. No wonder they're coming here in search of fun bits!

While I -apparently- am not able to keep myself out of this thread I might as well ask the women (if there indeed are any left in here) if they've ever had any hmmm... 'feminine help' (whatever else am I going to call it?) from men/boys!

I mean: when a teenager I noticed the women in my class (in school) talking about the book called "Woman know your body" (woulden't know the Anglo parallel!) and thinking our parents were as useless talking about 'stuff' with my (six years younger) sister as they were to me, I got a copy for her... years later she she told me how wonderful a gift that was, and how grateful she actually was...

Dudes-- and by "dudes" I mean members without janes-- spamming in the ladies' Thread is still spamming. Please don't.

I just had to say that my sister and I have resolved to spread "jane." Jesus, I can't think of a way to say that that doesn't sound just awful.

A question for the ladies...

How much of your social knowledge did you pick up from tv, your friends, and watching your parents?

I ask because my darling niece has a real ass for a father. While she is very gifted, (and yes, I may be a bit prejudiced there) I think she is learning from my brother-in-law that a woman's place is subservient to a man. I want to fight this programming, and I need advice.

I didn't get to watch much tv when I was younger but I was exposed to different ideas in school and through books. I would think that if I was growing up in this era I would have learned much from the internet. The best thing to do is to expose her to a variety of views and attitudes and let her form her own.

It's important that your niece has positive role models who can show her that her father's way of thinking may not be the right way. My guess is that her father doesn't treat her with respect, so it's vital that her self-esteem and self-respect are raised with the help of other adults in her life, both male and female. Social knowledge is picked up from all aspects of our society, but the strongest influence still usually comes from our personal relationships, so the more time you can spend with her and be one of those positive role models, the better. You obviously love your niece and it's fantastic that you are asking for advice on this matter. Kudos to you!

It sounds wonderful to me. You should go into advertising.

My sister's the one with the social network in our family, I'll see if I can get her on board with the new terminology
Sweet. I'd love to be the author of a successful slang term.

"Jane"- I love it. :techman:

Okay, ladies, a women's issue. Do any of you having sudden crying fits for no reason just before Auntie Flo visits? Last night I woke up around 2 a.m., and cried for five minutes. No idea where it came from. I hope it's just an unusual hormone surge and not my medicine losing its effectiveness. :( I was absolutely chipper today.

^ Well, I haven't woken up in the middle of the night to cry, but I am much more emotional during those days. Something that I usually would not even care about could make me sad and even cry.

However, the reason can be pretty irrational. I remember that I once started crying because my boyfriend casually walked into the next room! I mean, I knew that crying was stupid and I was not even sad or anything... my organism just wanted to cry, go figure! (I also stopped crying and started laughing when his baffled head looked at me from the doorway, go figure x2....)
