Viacom/CBS possibly to re-merge

There isn't money in that.

Worf and Riker are too old to argue over dee.

What's more likely ins a Kelvin TV Show, with some of the minor characters.

I take this as good news, no more split Trek between movies and TV, but more importantly I hope this means we get Prime universe movies again. Don't care which crew, series. Just want more Prime movies. I know I can't be alone in this sentiment either.
That might be the outcome, which I would probably welcome, but it might also mean JJverse T.V....

Back in the 90's, TV and film Trek was basically the same flavour. I prefer how it is now. Discovery has a different tone and feel to the Kelvin universe movies. I don't want Trek homogenized.

In other words, I prefer it the way DC handles their properties (separate film and TV universes, and other shows and movies in their own universes too) to how Marvel do it (it's all one universe). It allows for so much more creative freedom.

Prime movie doesn't have to mean old characters. Trek movies have always been about either continuing or reinterpreting the adventures of the TV show crews, but it doesn't have to be so. In fact sometimes that has been a drawback. The big ensembles are good for TV show, but they often don't work so well in a film. It is also super weird how the same people seem to stay together for decades. It might be a good idea to create a completely new characters and theme designed to work in a movie. If it would be set post-Nemesis (as many people seem to prefer) they could maybe use couple of characters from old shows for continuity, other characters being brand new. A film about Admiral Picard sending a new Enterprise on a mission. New captain and a new crew, perhaps one or two familiar faces on board.

I don't know what to say about the Film Front. That all depends on how the Quentin Tarantino film does. On the TV Front, I think DSC and any further series would continue, creatively and collaboratively, along the lines of what it's doing right now until it can't.

What does that even look like though? The prime casts aren't coming back, so it's a new cast whatever happens - and they aren't going to recreate the look of 90s TV for the big screen so it'll look something more like JJverse. What functional difference will making it a 'prime' movie make?

I dunno, I think the TNG Movie era still looks fine on the big screen.

It continues the story of the Federation post-Nemesis. But if you don't care about that, then it really doesn't matter much. But a lot of people do.

Besides, Kelvin has thus far been about reinterpreting familiar characters. Now in theory, they could do something else within that setting too, but more likely if they'd continue with Kelvin, we would probably eventually get Kelvin version of TNG or something like that. Personally I really don't want that. I rather have completely new characters. That has been really refreshing about Discovery, it is nice to get to know this new crew.

I think he'll do a TNG movie. He doesn't like the JJverse from what I've gathered from podcasts he's been on.
No. He won’t. I am reluctant to predict too much about any film project at such an early stage, but I’d be comfortable betting a month’s salary a Tarantino Trek film, if it happens at all, will be a Kirk, Spock and company film—or it won’t happen.

They could have already done a Kelvin based show if they wanted. After the third kelvin film, the agreement with Bad Robot was done and ALL rights reverted to CBS.

I know what you mean, the TNG/DS9/VOY era has passed us. Maybe it's only now I'm really realizing that. There's no crew to go back to, to make movies with.

Quentin Tarantino could resurrect it.

I sincerely hope not. I really like the Kelvin Timeline films, but if continuing them means a Quentin Tarantino directed and/or produced Kelvin Timeline film, then I would prefer it dead. That way I can safely completely ignore the Quentin Tarantino Star Trek film without it impacting continuity.

Much as I've been sadly forced to completely ignore Discovery since the fifth episode. It's tough these days finding new science-fiction television and movies that don't make me :barf:
