vERY sTUPID ePISODE

STARTREK11

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I found the asteroid episode where they lose engine power and a giant asteroid coming towards the ship, threatening it's destruction,as wesley tries to patch a solution in 3 hours to be really dumb.

All they had to do was to get a shuttle and attach a towline and move the ship out of the way of said asteroid.

In 3 hours it would easily have accelerated the ship out of harms way.

I MEAN THEY COULD EVEN HAVE USED REACTION THRUSTERS.

or thrown a large heave mass out.

or did a saucer separation...

or used a tow shuttle tow.

I mean even a man in a spacesuit with rockets could have started the ship moving...
a shuttl;e even though small could have moved it many miles easily...

look...

D=1/2 AT*T

0.5 X 0.01 M/S/S X {3 HOURS TIMES 3600 SECONDS} SQUARED = 3000 KM !

0.01 G ACCELERATION ON A TOWLINE =3000 KM TRAVEL DISTANCE IN 3 HOURS ...

Yeah, but would you want ot watch and episode of that?

Picard: "My Worf, status of the asteroids new trajectory?"

Worf: "The asteroid has moved approximately 200 kilometers."

(repeat for the rest of the hour)

It's Saturday, and you're giving us a thread with a lot of Math? You can do better than that.

I think the episode you're talking about is first season's The Naked Now. While it's not exactly the best episode (definitely done too early in the series' run), I will say that it's kinda hard to pull those kinda maneuvers when most of your crew is drunk/drugged up.

Hmmm. I agree.

Yes. Right. Of course.

Well, this all checks out.

A single man could it.

Re: I agree with STARTREK11

But only Wesley could split the energy flow through the force activator.....

Next Gen'f first Technobabble. Ah, good memories.

Re: I agree with STARTREK11

Regardless of the properties of the stellar matter or the state of the ship's propulsion at the time...it was always a WTF to me that they couldn't already use the tractor beam as a repulsor, before Wesley "invented" it.

Re: I agree with STARTREK11

Nah, it just saved exposition when it was next used in The Battle.

LOL

Re: I agree with STARTREK11

The part that really gets to me is the engineer says "But it'll take weeks!" Then Wesley just says "Why not see it in your head?" Or somethign or other. And she rolls her eyes and Wesley does it in like 30 seconds. :brickwall:

To be fair, that was one of the infamous, one-shot musical engineers of first season. Had this happened second season or later, Geordi would have gotten it done...or pointed out that the tractor beam could already push things, Wesley.

the equation cannot be assuaged.or circumvented.

wesley could just have jumped onto a shuttle
a tow truck...

no crystals required..

a wire to pull it.
