VENOM (Spider-Man spinoff) movie being planned

A little bit of an update. Seems it will "cross" with "Amazing Spider-Man".

Makes sense. I hope they use the crashed space shuttle for Venom's origin this time instead of a random fallen meteorite from the space like in Spider-Man 3.

Still don't think a Venom solo movie is a good idea though! :rommie:

Well, it's like, your opinion, man.

What you are describing is the 1994 cartoon origin of Venom.

Well Spider-man 3 seems to take a few cues from that. The church tower. Also in the cartoon episode where Venom comes back it's by meteorite.
That shuttle crash would look awesome in a film.

I always thought they should have had John Jameson JR bring it back with him and then he becomes Venom (seeing as he already had motive to hate Peter).

Hate Peter because Mary Jane left him at the alter? If anything John would hate MJ...but I never got that he was that type of person. He's not that way in the comics and wasn't portrayed as a vindictive person in "Spider-Man 2". If anything he understood probably why MJ left him.

^Seriously? We hardly knew him in the movie. I think if someone leaves you at the altar for another person you'd hate both of them. It's not an easy thing to brush off.

I never said it was an easy thing to brush off...what I said is that John is not portrayed as a vindictive person in the comics and I didn't get the sense that he was that way in the film either (from the amount of footage we did get of him). John becoming Venom using the motivation suggested doesn't make much sense to me at all. Unless maybe you had him going after Mary Jane in a jealous rage or something. We could have had that famous McFarlane panel of Venom's shadow lurking over a terrified MJ maybe.

It makes perfect sense to me, he has his heart broken, probably gets reminded of it fairly often (especially from his dad who works with Parker), you could even mirror the scenes from SM2 where Peter walks past all those posters of MJ. John can't really get over it, which leads to more bitterness and resentment, the symbiont latches onto him. You've got the basics of a good conflict there, sympathetic villain, love triangle no need to shoehorn in a new character.
