'Variety' reviews Star Trek XI

"the new and improved "Star Trek" will transport fans to sci-fi nirvana

[...]

Paramount won't need any economic stimulus package with all the money it'll rake in with this one globally, and a follow-up won't arrive soon enough"

Sounds positive.

Hmmm...I'm starting to wonder if this movie will get even just one negative review. Will this movie be 100% on RT?

The guy at CHUD will give it a negative review, I am certain.

If he doesn't this movie will beat Titanic! ;)

well , at least we know the critics like it. now , lets hope we all will as well.i can remember many movies the critics loved that bombed at the box office.

Wow! There isn't a single point of criticism in this review. And this is coming from Variety! Not that they have ever been particularly negative about Star Trek, but this is unexpected.

they said the score is soaring, perhaps a bit too much at times. ;)

Those tend to be the little artsy movies, where critical praise means nothing for financial success. Big summer blockbusters that manage to get critical praise generally do very well. Critically slammed blockbusters can also do well. The ones that fail almost always are not critical darlings - I can't think of a single example of a well-reviewed big-budget summer tentpole move that did poorly - so that bodes very well for Trek XI.

Well crap... I'm sure that someone said that Abrams and his people "don't have a clue what they're doing."

Oh, I'm sure they'll be vindicated yet. Perhaps a few viewings apiece will provide them with enough material to convince us just how wrong Abrams' vision is.

superman returns was a summer blockbuster that was critically acclaimed and it did very poor box office. so bad in fact that the proposed sequel was scrapped!

I've been looking forward to this movie since the first announcement. It seems as though no one has anything really bad to say about it, only minor nitpicks.
Can we optimists say, 'We told you so" yet? or do we have to wait until after opening weekend?:rommie:
