Vance's Schematics II

Vance

Okay, don't have a new one up for today YET, but I did have a question. I've got a lot of requests and ideas that make use of the 'New Orleans' variant primary hull. My only real issue is the obscene amount of windows on the ship.. it makes the ship painfully difficult to draw, and also - for me - really breaks the Trek aesthetic.

I'll have a picture up soonish for a variant ship without the 'windows' and escape pod details. But, I was wondering, are the windows THAT important to other fans? (If so, I'll draw them in, but it'll take substantially longer)

Gallant Class Destroyer, WIP, as an example...

Interesting. It reminds me of a more compact Freedom class destroyer, and some of Jackill's modern scout/destroyer designs based off Ambassador components.

Interesting, again. But this ship was largely just to get the New Orleans hull and warp engine drawn up to scale. :)

Still no comments on the windows?

The lifeboats seem a little crooked in places...

It has relatively few windows for a ship of this era.

Harakawa Class...

Uh, Bill Colley demands that this ship is his, but it's wholly lifted from the Akyazi, which is Aridas's. Anyway, here it is, I'll let THEM fight over whose ship it is. :)

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'll get another version going when I've got more time at once to dedicate to the saucer.

RE: the Harakawa

Very interesting design. Could use a little navi-deflector dish in that nook with the forward torpedo bays. Don't laugh, but this concept shows one possibility (in somewhat different form) for what the NX-01 could've been.

Short-range ships like that, in my mind, seem to have the deflector tied to the shield grid (as explicitly shown in TWOK). Makes sense to me, and it shows how larger ships like the Enterprise might have a component that's 'rarer' but useful on the big girls.

I have to says the Harakawa is my favorite so far.
In answer to your question of windows: having "A LOT" of windows is not important. The key is to have enough windows so that it does not look like they were an afterthought.

Oh! Golly!!

Yay!!!

Now i have all of your Schematics :D

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! VANCE!!!!!

plus i too like the Harakawa it just looks like a very useable design :). where did you get the name for it from?

and Good Work on the Wizard Class :) Much better than the Oringinal design pics :)

Whoa!

Just round out the aft of the saucer (doesn't need to be broken up) and de-evolve the compenents a little, and you could have a better-designed NX-01.

Would look great with the catamaran-style arrangment, or just a single rigging going back to the Engineering pod.

Neat ship!

The one fatal flaw in starship designs like Drake and the Federation-class "dreadnoughts": where the secondary hull has a forward-facing hangar bay topside is that there's very little room, if any, for a turbolift tube to pass from the saucer section into the bowels of the secondary hull without passing through or directly alongside the forward hangar bay. Maybe the forward dish and hangar should be switched.
