Valeris, Cast No Shadow & Other Prose

I'm excited about Cast No Shadow. I've profiled the book today in advance of its release as I'm trying to bring more attention to my ST prose tastes. :)

Quick Q though, has Valeris been in any ST prose outside of TUC? I know we have Saavik stories that take place pre and post her movie appearances. How about Valeris?

Not to my knowledge, however, she did feature in an old comic alongside Spock and Saavik which took place during her days at the Academy. :)

Cool. What comic was that? Is she featured in other comics (I know the ST property bounced around for a few years between several comics publishers).

Looking around Memory Alpha and *shudders* Memory Beta *shudders*, I think she only appeared in the one comic and that was "A Question of Loyalty". :)

The continuity nerd in me made sure there's a oblique reference to that comicbook story in Cast No Shadow...

Damn. Just checked B&N.com and it's not coming out as an ebook until the 26th.

Isn't Tuesday the 26th and doesn't the ebooks get released on the day that the hard copy edition is meant to be released which is around the last Tuesday of the month, which would be the 26th.........

So why the surprise?

Anyway, it's only four days away.

I know, I just wish we could get them the same time as they start popping up in stores, that's all. And any wait is to long of a wait for new Trek Lit, especially by an author or James Swallow's caliber.

I picked up my dead-tree copy at B&N last night. They had a good-sized stack available, not just in the Star Trek section, but in the SF "new releases" section.

Looking forward to reading this! (Almost done with Vanguard: Declassified and Riordan's The Lost Hero.)

The few times I've been to B&N since I got my Nook they've had Trek and other tie-ins in the new release section along with the tie-in section.
I think I might have even found a couple of them in the general Mass Market New Release spinny-thing up by the Customer Service counter.

After my local Borders closed, when I went looking for new Star Trek releases at B&N, they'd only gotten a couple in one month and were already sold out, while in another month, they hadn't even ordered any!

Fortunately, they seem to be seeing more demand. For the last two releases, they've had multiple copies on or before the release date. Thank goodness -- with Borders closed, and neither close WalMarts carrying Star Trek books, my options are pretty limited.

The local Borders, which started its closing sale last week, had a generous stack of Cast No Shadow (at 10% off). I counted at least 15 copies in the Star Trek section, and about 5 on the table near the front door.

I am currently reading Cast No Shadow. Has anyone else noticed the references to the FASA Star Trek roleplaying game? For example, U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard is NCC-1776 from the Federation Ship Recognition Manual rather than NCC-1712 from the Star Fleet Technical Manual. The book also included Klingon ships from the Klingon Ship Recognition Manual. There was also a mention of the Triangle in the book.
