Valentine's Day Haters Welcome Here

So what am I doing wrong that I don't notice this stuff? If I didn't put V-Day on my computer's calendar I would honestly forget about it every year.

It was the same when I was single. V-Day mattered about as much to me then as my neighbor's birthday. Like, it's there, I guess, but why would I notice it? Nowadays I see a reminder that I need to get my wife a gift, but if I didn't put that reminder on my schedule I would never notice it.

Why are you going out of your way to notice something that bothers you so much?

Don't make me start a "People Who Are Ambivalent/Indifferent to Valentine's Day" thread!
Go ahead :)

Incredibly, I'm not the first poster here. :guffaw:

But seriously, why wait until a day celebrating the doings of a patron saint to tell someone that you love them? It's the sort of thing you should be saying to the one you love at any time of the year, as many times as you want to.

I mean... why wait?
I feel the same way about Christmas, though. Why force yourself to buy people gifts just because December 25th is coming up? Why not just buy people gifts anytime you see something you think they might like?

That's exactly why we don't celebrate Christmas in that manner anymore. For Christmas, when we can, we just bring something to the party, and enjoy it together. :)

Ooh, awesome. I'd love to get my family to start doing that.

Okay, here's the reason I HATE Valentines Day...

It was also my wedding anniversary...in a really shitty marriage. I hated having to celebrate something I wasn't happy with. Any good thoughts I had about VDay dissipated with each passing year of more misery. Blech!

I hate it coz I never am with someone this time of year...every relationship has started in April and ended before Feb.

:(

I don't really hate Valentine's Day for the usual reasons (commercialism, being single, yadda yadda) but it IS fun to hate things. So sign me up.

I also hate Groundhog Day, for the record. Rodents suck.

I've never much liked the idea of spending money to show your love so in that sense I don't like Valentine's Day. But I'm single so it doesn't really affect me.

The way I see it, Valentine's Day is for couples. I usually feel indifferent as I am (happily) single and relieved that I don't have to spend a shitload of money to prove to a partner I like him/her. I don't hate Valentine's Day per se, but I hate the commercialism.

It sounds a lot like another lame excuse for guys to get laid (which they can do any other time of the year, by the way) and for retailers to make tons of money on jewelry, candy and flower sales. Everywhere I turn, I hear or see some kind of Valentine's commercial about getting a special gift for the wife or girlfriend. "Don't forget the heart-shaped box of chocolates!" or "Get her a pair of diamond earrings for ONLY $8,000."

I have several family birthdays in February, and my family usually does a special get-together lunch. Also, I'm excited about the four-day holiday weekend and the upcoming Lunar New Year (Year of the Tiger, yay!), although I'm not Chinese, but it's better than Valentine's Day.
