V For Vendetta

Just finished reading this, absolutely loved it. I'm very into the whole dystopian thing at the moment and am reading a book called 'The World Hitler Never Made' which examines what happened if Hitler had won WW2.

As a British guy who recently relocated abroad, in part because of the Labour government and the depressing options for change when they get kicked out next year, the whole revolutionary thing speaks very powerfully to me at the moment.

Any other fans out there of V? Anymore suggested reading?

I have only watched the movie which I really liked.

I haven't read any of it... but I loved the film. I watch it ever year now on 11/5. I end up watching it a few times a year, actually. I recently got it on BluRay and it's absolutely stunning. It has to be the best role Natalie Portman has ever had... she was incredible, especially in the "prison" scenes... just moving stuff. I'm REALLY excited for Ninja Assassin which is another film by James McTeigue and the Wachowski's.

I saw the movie first, and ended up reading the graphic novel later, and as a consequence I don't really enjoy the movie as much. Mostly, I now don't like how much of a clear-cut freedom fighter V is in the movie, whereas in the novel he's so much more ambiguous.

Still, they're both entertaining in their own way, just the novel has more depth to it, I find.

I've really loved reading the novel, the film is good in isolation though and I agree on both points regarding;

1) The ambiguity of V
2) Portman's best role so far.

'The multiple villainies of nature, do swarm upon him' is rather apt.

The whole dystopian scene has really got under my skin, I'm looking into the discordian scene too at the moment, I love the premise of Operation Mindfuck..!!

I think the next few years reading will be amongst the best I'll ever have, I'm so turned onto this scene.
