USS RENO Escort class

Ensign

Here is another original design of mine, originally put down 14 years ago i dusted it off and revamped it. Armed like the Defiant but sporting 4 more std torpedo tubes and a larger more crew friendly hull. Impulse engine and shuttle hangers are between the engines behind the saucer

It should be noted that someone has already mention the location of the bussard collectors and the fact that the saucer sections blocking them off.... i will fix this with the next render, most likely droping them down so they are under the saucer section....

other than that snafu what do you think?

lol, seeing how i only have about 4 StarTrek pics in a gallery of over 400 pics, im afraid your gonna have to be a little more specific on which non-startrek privateer your love:D

Interesting stuff! I must first say that I think your Trek stuff is pretty well executed, I'm not sure the designs are really practical and believable. They seem overly sculptured and I can't tell why.

That said, I really like your other stuff on your DA page. A lot of it seems derivative enough to see your influences, but it's in a unique enough direction that I think it all looks very cool and as though it's from a single cohesive setting. Great stuff!

She seems to have a lot of characteristics of the ships from First Contact (Sabre, Norway, etc.). And given how I love First Contact, that is not a bad thing. :techman:

I hope you don't intend to go with the registry number you have currently when you finalize her, because ships in the 10000-range usually indicates that they are from the from the 2310s, while this design, with her pulse phasers, tells me she is from no earlier than the late 2370's, and possibly from and the early to mid 2380's. I would estimate that this would put her registry somewhere in between the 75000's and the 85000's.

I'm aware that you are probably not aware of this rule of thumb of how registries work, but this might be something you'll want to follow if you want to make your designs all the more realistic.;)

Thanks for the heads up, The more information i the better i can get, please feel free to keep me informed of such things since i have little to no knowledge of things like the registry numbers. I will redraw it with corrected nacelle placement and updated hull number... um, anything else i need to know? not sure what else i may have missed...

I wouldn't worry about the nacelle placement. There are plenty of official designs that have the same issue.

Yeah, overall, the 101 on starship design, as far as I can recall, is having your ship reflect the era that she is supposed to be built in, and having her registry reflect the era she was built in.

Besides, I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to have tractor beams or force fields vector the interstellar hydrogen into the bussard collectors. The nacelles would have an added bonus of being harder to hit, especially from head on. As long as there is room for such equipment, the nacelle placement can be justified.

I would just resist the temptation of using this for vessels from before TNG, since the technology might not be refined enough yet.;)
