Hmm.. A couple of Voyda McIntyre novelizations of the TOS movies speak of "galaxy-class" ships operating in the same time period, one of them carrying the author's original character Mandala Flynn on a mission of extremely long range exploration. Nothing about those descriptions seems to connect the "galaxy-class" ships to the Reliant, though.

...What was the spatiotemporal anomaly that caused the ST:FC starship designs to acquire class names from the get-go? Was Jaeger or Eaves the only designer in Trek history obsessed enough to invent such things even when the writers had no immediate demand for them?i
Never named by the production team. Memory Alpha has this, from their entry on the "Kelvin-type":I suspect that this may have already been asked and answered, but if not, does anyone know which starship class that ship is supposed to belong to, if that class has been named by the production team...?
Memory Alpha said:Class identity
Writers and producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman did not select any name for this class of vessel. [6] The name used here for this type of ship is therefore unofficial and taken from the USS Kelvin, the only ship of its type to have appeared on screen. The Kelvin was originally to have been named the USS Iowa. [7] The use of this alternative would have had obvious repercussions for this page.
This type of ship is similar to a few rarely-seen classes in the prime universe that likewise have a single nacelle (rather than the usual quantity of two nacelles), including the Saladin-class, Hermes-class and Freedom-class.
His rank insignia matched that of a lieutenant commander in the movie.Slight tangent, why does Memory Alpha say George Kirk was a Lt Commander when he's addressed as Lieutenant in the movie? Lt Cmdrs are addressed as "Commander".
The promotional website (Apple wasn't it?) had profiles of the ships and characters briefly, it listed the Enterprise as a constitution class vessel, but the site, no matter how officially run isn't canon. Her dedication plaque says "Starship Class".
