USS Grandeur - One... More... Time!

the citizen said:
Some news for everyone; I'm about to publish a book and I asked Jason to help me with part of the cover. This first published Grandeur-based book centers on the time between the last book of the Legends of Grandeur Series and the first book from the Starship Grandeur Series, where the crew is waiting on Starbase-131 for the new improved Grandeur-A to be complete. What Vektor will be posting here shortly, and for a few days until complete, is his paintover inwork pics for a portion of the cover highlighting a period of time where the ship is at a stage of being retrofitted.

That scaffolding (paintover, right?) looks great! I assume you'll eventually match the scaffolding's shadow to the render, because it looks too dark and mismatched right now.

The scaffolding and its shadows are still very rough. I'm not even 100% sure I'm going to keep it, I'm just experimenting with some different ideas. Since they're not using a drydock, I figured something like a scaffolding system attached directly to the ship might make sense.

"Captain, the ship is being taken over by the Reorg."
"The what or who, now?"
"Apparently, they're like the borg, but orange. And they love to change things."
"Very funny, Perry."

Looks great, just one little suggestion, maybe have a workbee or shuttle keep an eye/tractor beam on that free floating nacelle?

As for the scaffolding, sounds quite plausible to use something like that when not being in drydock.

Can't wait to see an "M.S.D." for the Grandeur's personalized (Blackfoot-Class) escort / special ops vessel.

Wow, that scaffolding is looking great. :)

I haven't seen anything like it before, stuck on a Trek ship, but I bet there are fixing to be a whole bunch of images featuring the same kind of thing. :)
