USS Grandeur - One... More... Time!

If Star Trek ever gets produced in the TNG timeframe ever again, I hope they hire you to do ship design. Seriously... Best thing I've seen since Jeffries and Probert.

That sentiment hardly needs to be limited to the TNG timeframe. Check out Vektor's pre-TOS ship (Vanguard?) sometime.

Marian

I have seen it and it's gorgeous as well. I just like what Vektor's done with the post-TNG concepts... He took everything that was good from that era of ship design and got rid of all the bad. You have no idea how much it irks me that the Sovereign class and the Intrepid class have no neck... And the fact that the nacelles on Voyager don't have line of sight to each other except in particular configurations. :vulcan:

To me, the Grandeur is something that I would consider classic Trek.

I'm afraid not, we're going to go with a 13", sorry. If everything goes well, it will be available in clear fiberglas, as well as, resin. We'll have to see what RL works up for the situation.

Hang tight!

Well... That might actually fit with the scale of the Sovereign... Either way, I'll buy one... Eventually. :)

Yeah, it's scaled to somethin'... just don't have the papers in front of me. I'm thinking it's the Ent... :)

DESIGNATION: USS Grandeur-A REGISTRY#: NFC-90125-A
CLASS: Avalon II TYPE: Heavy Tactical Cruiser

DIMENSIONS:
Length: 580 m (1902.4 feet)
Width: 235.5 m (772.5 feet)
Height: 92.23 m (302.5 feet)

CREW COMPLIMENT:
531 (315 enlisted, 140 officers, 75 MACO, And 1 barber)

ARMAMENT:
19 Type XII Phaser Emitters, (Quad Phaser Arrays)
4 Torpedo Launchers (store -240 photon torpedoes)
2 Quantum Torpedo Launchers (store -160 quantum torpedoes)
2 Wyvern V Anti-Recoil Proto-Cannons (right on the bow)
2 retractable modified Pit-viper pulse cannons (P and S of main deflector)

Those are the specs for the Avalon II class?

Interesting...

I did some math and came up with...
Length 580.0 meters
Width 243.5 meters
Height 83.2 meters

These figures are based entirely on comparing the proportions of length, width and height from the line schematics posted earlier in this thread...

I assume this class is from the same time period as the Sovereign class and uses some of the same technology introduced in the Defiant and Sovereign classes...

I understood that Photon Torpedoes and Quantum Torpedoes use the same launchers. (Quantum Torpedoes are Photon Torpedoes with a more powerful type of warhead.) Perhaps the two dedicated Quantum Torpedo Launchers are a prototype design for a new and larger kind of Quantum Torpedo...

Is there any information on the Wyvern V Anti-Recoil Proto-Cannon or the Pit-Viper Pulse Cannon? What are their capabilities?

I'm planning on getting all the 16 inch Enterprises from Art Asylum... Will it be that big? :p

If the USS Grandeur is 580 meters long and the model is 13 inches long, that works out to about 1/1750 scale. The closest match for scale is the Bandai Enterprise-E at 1/1700. (However, by all accounts, the Art Asylum Enterprise-E is a better model, even if it is 1/1500...)

The Grandeur's current exact dimensions are:

Length: 575.56m
Width: 242.59m
Height: 95.34m

My measurements were from the specs page on the site. Thanks for the update on that, Vektor! Now we can update too (I need the side view, please, for the MSD... please, please...) :)

More details will follow about all of this stuff as time permits me/us. Believe me, there are a lot of details that still need to be worked out now that we have Deif working on the MSD and other screens for Grandeur-A and the Blackfoot.

Frankly, I think it's a little premature to be making MSDs of this design considering how likely it is that the deck layout will change, but I'll leave that to others to worry about. What format do you want for the cross sections? DXF? DWG? AI?

Just trying to keep all of the other aspects of this project going, okay? :techman:

theCommander: VEKTOR, Is the ship exterior ready enough to start the MSD yet? We're going to need one done...

Vektor: Yeah, it’s probably far enough along for that, though I’m not going to guarantee that nothing about the ship’s profile will change, only that nothing will change drastically. Again, I can render out orthographic views or I can create cross-sectional splines. Let me know what you prefer.

Rendering orthographic views would work fine, but send me a super large side view for the MSD, we need it to make the out line. Also, the deck height, deck lines would serve well on the side view, if you would, please. Thanks!!

You really need it done as a "transparent" or "wireframe" don't you? So you can see where the window lines are, where the hatches are, etc, etc?

Uh, no. At this stage, as far as Vektor has said, there aren't any windows or hatches on the model. He's doing the windows last. Most likely the MSD will change some as the model progresses towards completion.

:vulcan:What this will give us is more depth. Well be able to figure out where the rooms will be with a visual aid such as a cutaway/MSD. We have other CGI artists on the project who will be working on the rooms and such, so this step is very valuable.

OOoooo....love love LOVE the Blackfoot-Class assault craft!

Yea my sentiments actually. Of course I liked what the citizen did with the slightly older Blackfoot but now that we have a dedicated CGI modeler working on the New and very much improved Blackfoot it has taken on a very cool distinctive life of it own.

If you want to follow it further check out the Blackfoot portion of the Grandeur Forum here: http://com4.runboard.com/bussgrandeur.f4.t17|offset=10

that should start you on page 2 of that area where it starts to get interesting. We are working on updating the actual Blackfoot website as well.

Hello everyone
Just a reminder that we are still looking for someone else to take over the 3D bridge drawings. The last gentleman had to much on his plate to really get started from where Nightshadow left off. So if you know of anybody that would like to fill this area, please let myself or "The Citizen" Know. We would love to have you on the Grandeur Project.

We already have someone doing the various consoles and screens for the bridge stations we just need the bridge herself completed that will eventually fit inside Vektor's model of Grandeur.

I look foward to seeing more of the Grandeur. To quote Chris Crocker, all we people want is moremoremoremoreMORE!!!

:techman: Okay... I just had to post this! And it IS worthy of posting!!

David Kleist, Deif on Okudagrams.com, has joined the project and is working on the LCARS screens for the Bridge. He does great work and, although there will be some minor changes... (drum-roll please...) here is his MSD for Grandeur-A...
