USS ENTERPRISE HAYNES OWNERS MANUAL (Part 3)

^Nice, they're referencing both the online Star Wars: The Old Republic and the old pen and paper rpg from what I can see there.

Got it on order already.

Can't wait to how they solve the problem of how to fit the too large movie set interior into the design. Word.

Today while browsing I came across the Haynes' Millennium Falcon Owner's Workshop Manual.

I thought it was a nice little book and put together much better than the Haynes' Trek book. Focusing on one ship has a lot to do with it. And granted the Millennium Falcon is a lot smaller and simpler to cover than one of Trek's Enterprises. Still it looked as if some genuine care and interest went into the Star Wars volume.

I just may pick it up because I enjoy decent technical reference books for SF hardware.

Focusing on one ship probably helps, but again the point I have made about it is that they used one of Lucas Books in house artists in Chris Trevas and perennial LucasBooks author Ryder Windham. Quite the contrast from the effort put into the Enterprise Manual who had writers I don't think the majority of fans knew, and everyone knows about the art problems.

It's a fun little book. It helps that I don't have the emotional investment in the Falcon that I do in the E, and don't take SW as seriously.

True enough. Also, we saw a little of the MF book in the Tramp freighters suppliment to an SW game some time ago..

I'm looking foward to later this year and the Haynes manual for the Thunderbirds vehicles! :bolian:

OOOOOOO!!!! :eek::eek::eek:

I actually have a DK-like (but not DK) cutaway book of all the Anderson vehicles that was made in England many moons ago. Another will be nice, though!

My previous experience with some of the tie-in stuff, esp the independently produced stuff, back in the 80s was that it tended to be the proverbial "mile wide and inch deep". A lot of it was done on a shoestring budget (Federation Reference series, Medical Manual, etc) and it showed.

I had the chance to check out the Enterprise Haynes Manual from my local library, and while it wasn't what the name implied it would be (an in depth nuts and bolts look at the Big E), it was well produced and a good general guide to the various incarnations of the ship. I'd like to have my own copy someday, finances permitting.

Last time someone did this--it was Starlog
http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=40247

Yes, I have that Starlog release. The Trek sample page on this link has a different view of the Galileo thats good. Anyone know if the Galileo was ever proposed to have glowing nacelle caps?

I think there were two versions of their book on SPACESHIPS, not to mention their book on weapons.

Its been too long since we had something similar comparing ships across genres--other than merzo.net

With the passing of Ralph McQuarrie and the release of the M. Falcon book--I wonder if it might be a good idea to make a Federation saucer based on the Falcon (minus the cockpit escape pods, etc) with the very simple details for a Planet of the Titans ship saucer...

The artist on that book you have, Graham Bleathman, is doing all the art for the Thunderbirds manual.

There was one done along those lines several years ago, mostly from parts of the Polar Lights kit. You can find it (and the massive station it's attached to) at the bottom of this page.

Here's some direct links to pics of the ship itself:
