USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transformers

Re: USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transform

Alot of good ads for good movies this year.

Up, Star Trek, Land of The Lost, Transformers Revenge of The Fallen,
Race to Witch Mountain, Year One, Fast and Furious
... etc.

All on my list of must sees. Can't wait. :D

Land of the Lost looks horrific, even worse than the original TV show.

The original show sucked, but childhood favorite. The movie looks fun. :)

Personally, I'm not interested in either the Doritos, Budweiser, or Bridgestone movies. But Denny's and Star Trek look good!

Wait. Denny's sucks.

Yeah, not a bad spot if you're focusing on movies. Considering it a: isn't at all funny, b: isn't centered around a high profile personality (Jack Black, The Rock, Will Farrell), and c: isn't a sequel, that's not bad at all.

I don't know about you guys; but even though I think "Up" will probably be good, I didn't find the spot even remotely funny. It all just fell flat for me. I was surprised to see it ranked up with the funnier ones.

Well spotted Rama. I was on this site this morning and they didn't even have Trek listed in the whole thing! As if it wasn't shown! Good to see it was shown finally. I guess that is a fair assessment all things considered. :techman:

Edit: In fact it still isn't on the page I saw, check here: http://www.usatoday.com/money/advertising/admeter/2009admeter.htm

That's dumb! I would have been curious to see what parts they found great (it gives you the dial meters in real time with the trailer.)

Re: USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transform

Here's what Vic Holtreman over at Screenrant had to say about the ad:

So here’s the deal, if you’re a long time Star Trek fan you’re either going to love the upcoming Star Trek movie or you’re going to hate it. I’m betting there will be no middle ground on this one. But I’m betting that if you’re NOT a Trek fan, this movie is going to rock your world.

While I’m still having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around Chris Pine as Kirk (especially his use of the word “man” 200 years from now in the following trailer) I’m leaning towards the “gonna love it” camp.
.
.
.
There have been comparisons of this film to Star Wars but I don’t think that’s right. This looks like it’s going to have its own look and feel and is going to be like Star Trek on steroids. In the end, will it be great? That remains to be seen, but at this point I’m thinking my cautious optimism over the course of the production will end up being justified.

STAR TREK is probably the only one of the new-trailer movies that I'll be paying to see in a theater. Maybe TRANSFORMERS. It'll depend on the reviews and if one or two friends decide to go.

Star Trek is probably the only movie I am guaranteed to pay money to see in a theater this year. The trailers haven't discouraged me, so I take that as a good sign. :)

Oh, I'm definitely in line for "Watchmen."

Other than that and Trek, I'm not seeing anything intriguing out there yet.

If that site says it's as good or even better than the first one, I'm in. If not, I can be patient enough to wait on the DVD.

Re: USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transform

This is good news!

I'm glad that Trek is getting some public exposure.

Re: USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transform

All the friends I was with on the Superbowl said that the new Trek movie looks good, and none of them are Trek fans, so that's something.

Re: USA Today ad meter ranks ST ad middle of the pack, above Transform

I think they should aim to try to get a trailer with "Watchmen."
