American singer and actress Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48, her publicist Kristen Foster has said.

The cause and the location of her death were unclear, Ms Foster told the Associated Press news agency.

It's a bit young for today's age, but one never knows, when one dies.

Today I watched Tower Heist, and it was Heavy D's last movie. He died young too.

But I guess, the death of a famous person is always something to report about.

With her history of drug use and plummeting career, perhaps not a surprise. Always a shame that talent is wasted like that.

I remember singing to her songs when I was growing up in another country.

I decided long ago never to walk on anyone's shadow
If I fail, if I succeed, at least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

Because the greatest love of all is happening to me
I've found the greatest love of all inside of me ...

:(

That was the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) theme song when I was in elementary school. I can't help but appreciate the irony.

It's kind of surreal to hear she's dead. Her songs were everywhere when I was a kid.

^one would hope, but it has been 35 years since Elvis, and 49 years since Marlyin Monroe.

RIP, WH

This is sad and out of the blue, but not really surprising. As many celebrities die these days, it hard to feel any real emotion for these people. Still, I feel bad, she's an icon I grew up with, much like Michael Jackson.

How can it be both "out of the blue" and "not really surprising"?

It's of the blu in that we haven't really heard much about her in the past few years, so the news was the last thing I expected in entertaient news. I would expect to hear that Lindsay Lohan had died or something. That being said, knowing what we know about celebrities in general and Whitney through her reality show and what not, it doesn't surprise me that she has died now and not in her old age.

For example; Heath Ledger's death was completely surprising on both fronts. We weren't really aware that he did drugs, so it was out of nowhere that he died and completely surprising that he died of an overdose.

With Whitney, it's expected that she would die of an overdose, but out of the blue that it happened now instead of back in the early 200's or whenever she had her show. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

^ Yeah, I thought she had turned her life around. Then again, do they have any idea whether it was drug related?

R.I.P. WH

For starters, I'd back off of the speculation. She was a major tallent, then user, reclaimed tallent, and then question mark. She was set to be a special guest at the pre-Grammy party at the same hotel that she was found in tonight. I know she took the dark road at times, but to say that is what took her is premature. Example, my dw's friend (in her 30's) got into a tub and passed a clot...dead. Just because she was famous, doesn't mean that sketchy was her downfall. Wait for the facts, then judge.

What was sad was that she started using drugs, that was a sad. But after that point, frankly it's hardly a surprise or sad.
