US Citizen Detained & Denied Counsel

DCFan

Ensign
Gulet Mohamed was detained and interrogated by the FBI without counsel for more than two hours, Mother Jones reports. Mohamed was returning from Kuwait, where the US teenager was held for a month and beaten and interrogated, he says. When he landed in Dulles International Airport, where his family waited anxiously, the FBI ignored his pleas for a lawyer and proceeded to intimidate and interrogate him. A call from a customs official to his lawyer, Gadeir Abbas, yielded no respite; Abbas requested to represent him but the official told him to call the FBI's 800 number and hung up the phone.

After finally being released to his family, he left in a cab without answering questions about the interrogations, under advisory from his lawyer. Mohamed has not been charged of a crime and maintains his innocence. He was reportedly detained in Kuwait because he traveled to Yemen and Somalia in 2009 to visit family and learn Arabic.

Looks like the FBI-man in charge dropped the ball here, he needs to be reprimanded.

GOD BLESS AMERICAN!

As long as that god is based around Jesus, otherwise it's "Fuck you Mohameds!"

FBI screwed up. If he were guilty, they couldn't use any of the information. If he was innocent, it goes without saying that he shouldn't have been treated that way. There are at least six amendments to the Constitution.

Welcome to the USA, post-Patriot Act, folks.

We let it happen, so I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this.

And keeping in mind what happened to this poor guy, imagine how non-US citizens are treated thanks to the "war on terror" policies...

To quote Edward R. Murrow:

We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men — not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular.

Non citizens you mean illegal immigrants from Mexico sneaking in the United States border illegally carry loads of drugs on their backs? They do quite well in California since there are a majority living there and living off the American tax payers money!

^^^The only people I know of living well off of taxpayer money would be bankers whose banks were salvaged on taxpayers's expense. The idea that any crumbs thrown at the destitute costs "us" any significant amount would be insane if it wasn't obviously code.

I'm assuming you're throwing in irrelevant digs at illegal immigrants because you have nothing useful to add?

Actually, generally speaking, they pay into the system and never take back out, since they have to pay income tax, but can't file for a rebate. They also generally avoid most social services, since those are run by the government and the government has a habit of deporting them. So, no, most don't live off American tax payer money, they actually help keep our government more solvent.

BTW, I actually figured it was a reference to the Australian, Chinese, Bosnian, etc. detainees at Camp X-Ray, but I could be wrong.

Yeah and they come back, no taxes come out of their money. They also get free housing if they have children.
