Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend (1989).

IIRC, Japan didn't renew their censorship laws a couple of years ago. However, many companies still do it because the law wasn't repealed per se and I think they're quite tetchy about it. You do see uncensored domestic-market Japanese porno (mostly live-action), but the companies charge a premium for it.

Not significantly as far as I know, the only really big change came in the 90s where it became acceptable to show pubic hair. I remember that because the anime film Perfect Blue was probably about the first mainstream anime to show it, and that was made in 97.

Not to mention it's also a fantastic film.

That it is (apart from the cop out ending), and one that is deserving of a far better transfer than has currently been released. Why, despite Paprika getting one, has there been no western release of the Blu Ray yet?

Good question? I saw Perfect Blue on sci-fi once (edited mind you) And from what I saw it was a Brilliant FILM! an 8/10 grade from me.

Does something animated long before they were HD-ing everything even benefit from Blu-Ray anyway?

Yes it does. Provided excessive noise reduction isn't used, HD can be really good for animation. If Perfect Blue was produced using film, as I believe it was, a HD transfer would massively improve the clarity and the crispness of the image. The current US and UK DVDs aren't even anamorphic (and the PAL conversion on the UK edition is botched), so even a new DVD transfer would be an improvement.

Now i would love to see the perfect collection on Blu-Ray with special extras including on the controversy of the series.

Fat chance since it was put out by one of Central Park Media's branch companies, Anime 18, which is now six feet under as of a month or two ago. I highly doubt anybody's going to rescue it. It rarely happens with anime titles and is even more rare with hentai.

WAIT! Perfect Blue was a hentai?

No, Perfect Blue is released by Manga Entertainment and it's rape scene wouldn't warrant release by an adult label. EmmanuelZorg is talking about Urotsukidoji.

I remember when it came out, it was definitely a shock view for people.

I actually like the first 2, as has been mentioned before, they were the only ones worth watching.

Bri :rommie:

Because of all the discussion here I actually went and watched it again. Because I love a good train wreck. I kind of view it as a really fucked up, Japanese version of Heavy Metal. Except a thousand times more violent and with penetration shots - which for some reason I didn't remember from before. Of course no one brings up how ridiculously violent it is, it's only the sex that's disturbing to people.

I think it's kind of unfair to throw this particular movie in with typical Anime porn. Mostly because the sex and violence is secondary to plot and character development. I really liked The Beast-guy, his F'n hot sister, and their little midget sidekick. Because I liked the plot and characters so much I kind of feel that they really could have toned down the vile parts. Going as overboard as they did with it kind of drags what could have been a worth while movie into the gutter. There is kind of an artistic statement to be salvaged here I guess. It's just a really stupid, completely unneccissary one.

I've heard the manga it's based on is completely different and not nearly as gross. So I get the feeling they're basically trying to use shock and vulgarity to sell the product when, again, they really didn't need to. Because I kind of found myself liking the love story between the two main characters. The one tentacle rape scene isn't meant to be erotic so much as digusting and horrifying, and they actually deal with the trauma of it better then I thought they would. They could have been less graphic though.

It's not until the second one that it starts to go into that downward spiral of just becoming basic, Anime pornography. Shame too. Because if they had gone the oppossite route people would probably have a higher opinion of it. But because they didn't I think it deserves all the criticsm it gets.

^What parts did you consider ''VILE''?

-The tenticle rape scene. Which they could have toned down considerably. Or not done at all. Because it seemed so out of place and just not called for.

-When The Overfiend rapes a nurse and when he climaxes he causes her whole body to explode. They were just being vile just for the sake of being vile here.

-The ridiculous violence. Normally I don't complain about violence, but this movie just went overkill on it.

-When the main characters arch rival cuts his own dick off and replaces it with a demon dick so it could give him superpowers. Yes, you read right.

You might consider watching it. Just for no other reason then to get it out of your mind. ;)

Japanese Animation has some great, great contributions to art. I'm not sure this is one of them though.

Agreed. Anime has done much in the way of art. It's just I doubt a woman EXPLODING after demon sex would would be considerd ''art'' I don't even think that would be done in a real life porno! *Unless you consider HELLRAISER a porno, which in SOME circles in germany it would be *
