updating firmware, blu ray, and DSL

I'm trying to figure out the best configuration to solve this issue:

I just got an HDTV and blu ray player. The player does not have wifi, but does have a network connection to connect to the internet.

The problem is, I connect to the internet with DSL over a phone line, and I don't have a phone line in the living room. The closest is many feet away in the kitchen.

My office is a floor above the living room, so I was thinking of just getting a long cord and running it out the window to the living room to the player.

I know it might be easier to get another player, but I got a really good deal on this player, which is otherwise a great machine.

What do you tech-heads think?

or you could just goto a buddys house who does.. Or take the BD player to your office and hook to a small TV and update there.. Or, of course get your long network cable..
