Updated Technology In ST-11......

Given the exterior look of the ship we've seen so far I am really keen to see the bridge now. Given that they have stuck close to the look and feel of TMP I wonder if the bridge will follow suit, as well as uniforms.

Remember that TMP was roddenberry's big budget take on the tv show of Star Trek, it's kind of like we're going through that again. I was too young to see TMP at the cinema but I can only imagine what the fans went through seeing the updated enterprise from the tv show, considering there was no internet at that time.

You want updated tech???

I want full on green tittie topless action.

Look, the important part about designing this new film is to make it... A NEW FILM. Not something old. The old Star Trek is dead, long live Star Trek... if ya get me.

We really need to shed the old styles, the old stories, the old way of doing things. Not to ignore what worked in the past, but to go boldly forward. As a craft, making a new film should be new vision of it's new creators. I'm THRILLED to finally get a Star Trek from someone new. It's been far, far, too many years. And man, the time is right! I can feel it in the air, I can taste it on the wind.

^^
Hey I'm all for the new, but I need my daily intake of nods and winks towards the original, just so that we know it is Star Trek. What would Star Trek be like without Phasers, Photon Torpedoes, Shields, Transporters, Vulcans, Red Shirts.

Since they had Lasers in the Cage, they should have Tasers in this film.
;)

They should have Chekov and Sulu great each other by saying "What up, bro?" and slapping each other on the cock.

Uhura should hook up with Scotty in a Jefferies Tube.

The uniforms should all be bought at LL Bean.

Nurse Chapel should be played by Ru Paul.

^^^
The only thing I can think of, in this context, is that Jackass show.

I should mention the new trailer makes my little twisted brain think the over all design is quite sleek. Perhaps even somewhat retro in style. This is just my feeling, mind you. But I think the trailer shows us an integration of the past with a wholly new look. I'm very excited!

Given what has been said so far. I think this design is suposed to represent some kind of transition between the ENT era and the TOS era we know. Since Orci seems very versed in the series and even some of the novels, it's not unreasonable to believe that the issue of Captain April will not be overlooked and we are looking at a construction which easily takes place at least 1-2 decades before the events of Kirk's command. I think the tech will look a lot more present day (like ENT) and since Sulu and Chekov were probably still in preschool when the ship was built, that it is entirely possible we will see several eras of design and tech represented in this film.

I don't think that's particularly relevant. The designer, name escapes me, seems to be coming from a wholly design oriented starting point. Not Treks past designs or supposed history. But I'm just speculating from what I feel the design ascetics are going towards. And that from what I divine from the scraps in the trailer.

"... who the hell slaps each other in the cock!?!?!"

Re: Holographic Sex......

I think it would be entirely stupid for the tech to try and ape the 1960s - it would pull the general audience straight out of the film, they'd wonder what the spaceship on the big screen is less advanced than the cellphone in their pocket!

Re: Holographic Sex......

I think Enterprise made a good compremise on the ships technology and I think this will be the direction the new movie will take...

Hope they have gesture control. It was even in "The Cage"!

Except that while we see Spock gesturing and the image changing, what was actually filmed was that there was a woman seated at the console whom he was signaling with his gesture, not a Klatuu style hand-wavium control.
Click here to go to the page, then scroll down once and click the bottom of the four film frames (Spock at the science station). When it appears in the Guardian, click on the Guardian to see the full image (honestly, I hate how many steps it takes to get to the images on this site now). There's the woman who's actually controlling the display.

Gooey Holographic Sex......

I'm sure the new iPhone's operating system will be integrated, since it has become known as the state of the art.

I keep hearing that the Enterprise bridge will retain much the same look of the old 1960s sets and the more recent Constitution-class remakes in DS9 and ENTERPRISE, but will employ flatscreen computers to display the blinking lights and readouts and Spock's holographic slot-viewer/scanner at his station might actually be seen from the inside out this time around.
From who? Where?
