Updated: Futuristic City

Klondike307

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I posted some images of this city last year that were so so. I updated it when I got Bryce 7 and have a new render of the city. Let me know why you all think so far.

Much better render! And, is that the Yamato at the upper right? :D

Yeah! I need some ships to fill the ports so i popped in a few ships from Space Battleship Yamato. I know, I'm lazy. I guess I'll have to design and render new ships now

Bryce 7!? I just got 6!
Grumble grumble...

It's only the beta lol, they made it available to registered users a couple of weeks ago -- it's still buggy but looks to be a lot faster...

Yeah it's still pretty buggy, It's frozen up on me a time or two. I'm still using Bryce 6 for the majority of my work

Awesome Job! I particularly like the mountain in the middle of the city, it's a great touch. Does the mountain have a specific purpose? For me when i first saw it, the idea that the mountain might be a place of worship or have a temple built into it came to mind.

I don't know about that vulcano in the centre.... Seems like a pretty poor place to build a city around!

Otherwise, it looks pretty cool. I'd personally like to see some kind of scale indicator. The ships don't help because I don't know how big they are.

In the story I'm writing, it is one of seven points of land on this planet after a great century long flood. City's like this one were built around them before the flood.

6 of the 7 remain bits of land are on non-volcanic mountains. only the 7th was built on a volcanic crater and it was by another group. I'll post a render soon.

How did you create this fantastic piece?

I did almost everything in Bryce. Only the wake-trails of the two moving boats were done in photoshop. I made the ring structure out of basic shapes and added the moutain with bryce terrain editor. I also used the terrain editor to make the buildings by creating the general layout then adding spikes and and mounds to create the city, otherwise I'd have to make each building individually. Then I applied a few city textures with floors and windows and lights. What took the longest was getting the lighting, sky, haze, and clouds right.

As promised here's a early low quality render of the city built in a volcano crater. Unlike the 6 other huge cities, this "shanty town/slum" was built on the last remaing bit of ground that was not used by the other faction. I don't want to give a way to many story details, but this is a city built by some of the people who where not allowed in the other cities when the flooding started. It's the capital city for all those still roaming the ocean. I still have to add more buildings and more detail to them. I also need to add docks, piers, bridges, and a raggedy fleet of assorted ships.

Here is the flag of the city

And here is the flag of the 6 other cities

Let me know what you think, good or bad

^On the flag for the 6 other cities, is there a reason there are only 5 "stars" surrounding the object in the middle of the blue field? If not, I would suggest adding a sixth "star" in order to represent each of the cities. Of course, YMMV.
