Also September: Last Thursday I picked up IDW's "Best of Alternate Universes" omnibus, which reprints the old DC Comics Series I "Mirror Universe" saga, and is set between ST III and ST IV. (DC Comics did reprint this storyline as a graphic novel many years ago, but IDW is using a process that blurs all the tiny screened dots for the colouring.)

Whereas the DC TPB redid the colors from scratch, at the cost of losing some color-overlay special effects.

I compared both trades side-by-side, and, well, DC's colors and overall reproduction are significantly better. If you want to read this story (and trust me, YOU DO!) then it's worth your while to look around for the DC edition (Amazon currently has 29 copies available from dealers, starting at quite reasonable prices.)

I'll be picking up The Never-Ending Sacrifice (almost typed "Story") in Sydney. :D

It's already here! Do you want me to ask Galaxy to put one aside?
Only if you think it'll be gone by the time I get there. I'm planning on doing some book shopping by picking up Kim Stanley Robinson's and Dan Brown's newest books and the second and third Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz if I can find them.

Ah! Galaxy, in Sydney, just notified me that air-freighted copies of "Unworthy" have just arrived. Very efficient!

When does Emh arrive in Sydney? A bit slower, I guess, since he's arriving sea-freight. ;)

"Star Trek - A Comics History" by Alan J Porter - a reference guide to all Trek comics up through the IDW license acquisition.

Someone mentioned this here a few days ago and I immediately tried to place a backorder with my comic shop in Australia. They tried to order it via Diamond's orderpack, but it's already "unavailable" and Diamond will not be getting in more stock.

So thanks to TrekBBS posters and good ol' Amazon, I've just ordered it online instead, and probably much cheaper than Diamond's originally-listed price. :techman:

"Star Trek - A Comics History" by Alan J Porter - a reference guide to all Trek comics up through the IDW license acquisition.

My copy arrived today from Amazon.com (I'm in the USA.) It's a nice-looking book.

Upon my first flip-through, I found a small number of typos, but no obvious mistakes, which can't be said for many unauthorized Trek titles I have in my library.

The author, Alan J. Porter, covers the 3 Tokyopop TOS manga volumes; the TNG manga was apparently published after the deadline.

However, he doesn't cover any of the IDW output beyond a mention that he hopes to delve into it in a subsequent edition.

I got in yesterday! :p

I went by Galaxy and found everything I needed except the Dean Koontz books. I would have kept looking but I was in a hurry. However, I loved the little Doctor Who section they've got! Took all my free will not to buy half the shelf.

good, we don't need to take you shopping then. Did you ask the staff at Galaxy about the Dean Koontz books?

You know, I really could have because I asked them about the release date for Michael Crichton's upcoming book ("Isn't he dead?") but I didn't even think to ask about the Koontz books.

Ha ha! Would you believe that, a few days after I took that photo of the Star Trek section, a few weeks ago, for this BBS, Galaxy switched the locations of their Trek and Dr Who sections? That's why the old large Trek sign (in TMP font), is still positioned over the now-enlarged Dr Who collection!
