Upcoming Publications: July/August 2008

I wonder if perhaps this is going to be a regular convention thing then? If so, that's pretty cool for the people who go to them, and it also makes me wish I was one of those people.:klingon:

Looks like I need to budget for some new books. Planned on both Myriad... but picked up FS in Borders and read first page-and had to force myself to put it down-didn't really have the cash at the time. Friday is payday-can't wait! That thing really sucked me in!

Wednesday July 23
IDW releases NF Turnaround #5
"This is it: the final confrontation. Outgunned, outmanned, but never outwitted, Mackenzie Calhoun and the crew of the Excalibur face off against the masterminds behind the theft of the Paradox while the fate of Bravo Station, and Calhoun's wife, Admiral Shelby, hang in the balance."

Greater than the Sum
(Mass paperback) by Christopher L. Bennett

Hey Rosalind! This has arrived (airfreight, Galaxy Bookshop) in Sydney, Down Under, on Wednesday, along with the first "Myriad Universes" volume.

Oh, and I have my copy of "Star Trek: The Manga" volume 3, which was stuck in the CBD (at Kings Comics) no-go zone due to the Pope's visit for World Youth Day.

Seemed like a real hassle getting Greater Than the Sum and the first Myriad Universes book this month. I get the impression that the tpb shipped with the mmpb even though they come out in different months.

Finally found a couple copies Thursday. They had two copies of the tpb and one lousy copy of the mmpb. That was it.

Be thankful your not in the UK. Im still waiting for Fearful Symmetry to arrive...

That's pretty normal. Trades usually ship towards the (middle or) end of their month of publication (ie. July), and MMPBs about a week before the month printed inside (ie. August).

My copy was delivered to my grandmother during the week. I'm picking it up tomorrow.

How odd, mine were just dispatched. I did get the super-saver delivery so I'm hoping to expect them next week sometime.
Is there any reason why the UK is so behind in the schedule?

Yeah, they're printed in the US and shipped around the world instead of being printed by Pocket UK and distributed nationwide.

Amazon UK obviously used to get some stock faster, but went to slower deliveries (about two years ago?).

If you want fast UK service, you need to befriend your local comic/collectibles store and get them to order in advance via the Diamond Distributors Orderpak. They'll cost more, due to airfreight from the US.

Here in Sydney, my local science fiction store always place two orders for all novles. The first from Diamond, which arrives within hours of the US release, and the other via Simon & Schuster Distribution, which takes two months, the same dispatch that goes to the other local book chains. (UK is one month, not two.)

As I said, Amazon UK used to be much faster than they are now. Something changed in the timing of their shipments (from Amazon US?).

A supplemental print run could easily be done by Pocket UK and end this nonsense.
