10 games set to come out this year.

One huge caveat for me.

Where's the originality? Nearly all of these look like variations of the same thing? Such a waste

The only two that look interesting are the Volverine game and the James Bond game, unfortunately the Volverine game will be console exclusive for PS5

Honestly, the only AAA game coming out that I would care about is Half-Life 3. And knowing Valve, they'd finish it, decide it's not good enough and we'd only ever see snippets of it in documentaries in decades to come (like HL2: Episode Three)

Unless you are being sarcastic Valve just stopped at episode 2. they just left everything there deciding that it wasn't cost effective to make episode 3 or even do a full 3rd game. People keep going on about this.

I did like the sound design for episode 2, there was one particular robot they did the sound so well I thought you could hear it in the distance and it gradually got louder till it was near you. Can't recall the beasties name but the sound design was great

Valve didn't stop at Episode Two though. There are a few leaked prototype maps and more recently, clips of new enemies and tools/weapons that were shown off in the 20th anniversary documentary.

They also tried and abandoned Half-Life 3 several times, with archives of concept art floating around the internet.

^ Yeah, I remember all that. The plan was to eventually release Episode 3, but for whatever reason, the plan fell apart after none of the teams could find the motivation to continue, and from what I understood, they had different teams working on their own concepts for the episode and they were all encouraged to do so. I think what ended up happening was that as time went on, there was a bigger and bigger gap between Episode 2 and 3, leading to less momentum and motivation until eventually they all decided to move on to something else. I do think the concepts of episodes was interesting, but I think it was also a gamble.

For whatever it's worth, Alyx was the most amazing gaming experience of my life. It's up there with Mario 64 in my eyes, a game that redefined everything.

Even if that "everything" was just being inside an ultra high fidelity world for the first time. I recall holding a VHS tape and turning it over in my hand again and again at the very start, and realising that apart from the lack of weight, it was as if I had a real one in my hand. Every tiny detail, every reflection was perfect. Several more of the props inside the game world are the same.

It's a shame the world itself (utterly fantastic and beautiful as it is) and the characters couldn't live up to such holodeck-like realism.

Plus, my 70 year old mother (who never met a videogame she enjoyed) loved it, and played it through to the end twice during the lockdowns.

I only heard of 3 of the games in that video...
Wolverine, 007 and Stranger Than Heaven...

This one comes out in March:

If I had a ps5 I'd get Volverine but most of those in the video looked very samey like they ran out of ideas

Yeah, it's an incredible experience, and following that, other VR games have implemented similar things. Like Batman: Arkham Shadow on the Quest, is the only other VR game that has managed to capture a similar feeling for me. One of the cornerstones of VR gaming is in its interactivity. Ideally, everything you see in front of you, you can interact with, and Arkham Shadow has that in spades, from the secret items that you can find and smash for achievements, to phone numbers scattered across the game world that you can call via in-game payphones for messages. Top-tier VR games share a certain quality, in that they feel lived-in.

Heh, I was watching a video the other day of a man who had a Volvo sitting out on his property for 13 years. Started right back up without changing the oil, and his plan was to move it out to the dump. Changes the tires and by the end of the video he's doing burnouts at the dump! That car was a beast! Probably a Volverine ;) Heck, the guy had even been name-dropped by Jerry Seinfeld recently.

Correction to my earlier post Volvo is Swedish not German but year a Volverine is a Volvo with claws after it transforms and fights the black car from the movie The Car

See now this is something I can get behind. Beautiful character and art design that really stand out. It has a Dishonoured/Outer Worlds kind of vibe to it. And because everything has a unique feel to it, I think it has the potential to be very memorable. This one is really making me sit up and take notice.
