Unwatchable: "Justice"

95% of TNG's I can watch and get something, but not "Justice". I blv I could watch Spock's Brain, 1/2 of Voyager, and Move Along Home before this. Anyone else concur or disagree?

I disagree strongly. I find most of TNG's early episodes, including this one, to be highly entertaining... some of them, and Justice belongs to that group, are somewhat cheesy due to boneheaded stuff like "Oh, it's Crazy Sex Orgy Planet. Let's beam down with kids!", but that weirdness is, in the Spock's Brain tradition, part of the fun, and besides, I always found the idea of the God machine in space highly interesting. And I did find myself thinking about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of capital punishment due to the points made in this episode. I'd say that's not so bad.

So Justice isn't particularly great, but unwatchable is the wrong word.

How can anyone not love The Planet Of The Jogging Bimbos? especially when one of them was Brenda Bakke?

I liked this one quite a bit, at the time. It doesn't really compare well to what the show would become, of course, but aside from a little bit of the usual early character awkwardness it's pretty nice.

Photon, I'm on your frequency. This is one of the worst early TNG eps. What didn't make sense at all is the silly zones that would appear and subject their people to capital punishment willy-nilly. Perhaps the point the writers were making was that the death penalty can be applied in a somewhat capricious manner to some members of society, but the metaphor was awkward at best. The "god machine in space" was also a clumsy rip-off of Vaal from the TOS ep "The Apple." I found very little redeeming about this ep (Brenda Bakke nothwithstanding). So I concur. -- RR

I find myself mostly indifferent towards this episode. I don't find it neither bad nor good, but I at least find it pretty watchable, if preechy.

I just don't get the flimsy excuse to bring Wesley along with them, as "ambassador for the young people" on the ship when it was CLEARLY an adult-centric planet (with the free love and all) or how Yar (or Worf) fail to look into the planet's laws and miss... their laws. :wtf:

It also has some of the WORST Wesley lines in the history of the universe for any and all persons named Wesley both fact and fiction.

(in a "big boy" voice) I'm with Starfleet, we don't lie.

There's some games I don't know how to play yet.

Christ! Wesley, when I was 14 I DAMN well was sure what to do with a hot young thing wanting to kiss me.

But, other than that, Justice is watchable. Unlike, say, Cost of Living, Imaginary Friend, or a friggin' CLIP SHOW!!!

All but two or maybe three episodes from the first and four or maybe five episodes of the second seasons are unwatchable today. TNG didn't emerge into bland-but-competent entertainment until season 3.

The first season was really a mixed bag. Some really excellent episodes mixed in with dreadfully unwatchable ones.

I tend to think that this is the quintessential Rodenberry Trek episode.

It had Trek, it had the Mary-Sue factor, it had "our logic trumps their laws," and it had bouncing boobs in spades.

I personaly, though, could've done without the dudes in the pinky skimp costumes with the camel toe.

"Justice" is completely unwatchable. Sure there are some goofy parts, Picard's cheesy speech at the end and a planet full of bimbos and dimwits but yeah gotta love Worf's line.

"Nice planet." Yes, very nice indeed.

"Justice" is a pretty bad episode story wise. If you like cheese on the other hand it's chock full of it.

Oh god! I think i just vomited a little in my moth. Ewwww...make the pain stop.

I remember the "Starfleet" line earning numerous    from me.

Come on everybody. When I watched that episode on it's original air date, I thought it was awesome, being in rapture about following Trek faithfully. I know all of us that watched it then thought the same thing.

Nowadays, I realize that my 13 year old mind couldn't tell the difference between good Trek and sucky Trek. Whenever I see that episode on the air I think "Damn, is this supposed to be Star Trek". I see the episode way differently now than I did when I was younger.

Justice sure isn't one of my favorite episodes. I definitely remember the WTF feeling I had when it originally aired.

This is one of my favorites from season one. I've never understood all the hate for it. I thought it was a very good prime directive episode and I really liked the concept of advanced aliens existing in multiple dimensions with the ability to appear and disappear from our senses at will. I've always found attempts at utopia interesting too. Finally, I'm a BIG fan of athletic blond babes so this episode had just about everything for me.

Athletic Blonde Babes is one thing.

Putting them in terrible perm wigs is another.

Then there's the aforementioned male cameltoes.
