Unveiling my Venator-class Star Destroyer model

Introducing my Venator class Star Destroyer from Star Wars ROTS. This model was purchased from Starship Modeler.

It was delivered promptly; I like doing business with Starship Modeler. Paint was from Testors and I painted it mostly as the instructions advised. This is just the finished model not the build up, as I didn’t have a camera at the time. This model is 20 inches long and was a delightful build. I did a lot of research on this looking for every bit of info and every pic. In the end I decided on this simple paint scheme, didn’t want it to bee too busy.

This is perhaps my favorite large ship to come out of the Star Wars prequels. Not as boring as the near featureless Star Destroyers from the original trilogy and more interesting to look at, at least to me.

From build to painting it took me about a week. I'm no pro and there are flaws. Hope you like! What do you all think? :shifty:

Nice! I've really been wanting a star destroyer model, and I like this one.

I like your table, as well. :)

I like it! Is this the recently released kit I'm seeing in stores or the the more expensive Revelle-Germany one? I think the newer one is predecorated so since you painted yours I bet its the German one, but I was just curious. Was it a complex build or pretty straight-forward? I want to get a Venator but I'm not sure which kit to go for. The new one is plentiful in my area, but I wonder if the other one has better detail.

Any opinion?

Thanks. Yeah, this is the German one, I haven't seen the other one. I'd want this one anyways, I like painting my models most of the time

Nice work! I'm currently working on the same model, but went a slightly different route on the paint scheme. Hope Lucasfilm doesn't send a bounty hunter after me! LoL Got most of the painting done, just have to do a bit more detailing and slap the sucker together. Here's a couple pics of the upper hull. Enjoy!

One thing about switching to CGI models is that I miss having the physical item in my clammy hands to play around with. I also like seeing all the details on the models that you probably never got to see in the film, all the little bays and guns hidden away amongst the greebles.

I think I now prefer to see the models built pretty cleanly. Too many times I've seen weathering and battle-damaged used to cover up the fact that people couldn't paint very well. Certainly that's what I used it for. :) In the end pretty much every model I built got ink washed and drybrushed with rust or dirt until it looked like it had been wrecked on a beach for months.

I like the Venator class except for the two Star Trek looking warp nacelles added to the top. They just look very out of place to me.

Great modeling skills though!

Haha, you're right, it does look like a warp nacelle. Looks like something that might have been tacked on to the ol' Batris/whatever it is freighter.

That's a good idea for its use. You know, you might make a strange Planet of the Titans Enterprise using this. Just get rid of the command tower and the engines and place a shuttlebay back there. Use the Ambassador model for the saucer

Thanks, man! The battle damage was actually an accident. I dropped my hobby knife on the upper hull and put a big gash in it. So I figured I'd just roll with it, cut it deeper and make more gashes! I think it turned out nicely.
