Untitled Robert Hewitt Wolfe project - Possible new show on SyFy

Not really. SGU and Caprica weren't popular among fans, and that's why they were cancelled.

Fans of what?
I'm quite sure that the shows were popular among fans of the shows.

Unless you mean that many fans of BSG and SG-1 & SGA didn't liked them.

I don't know, I'm weary of SyFys' shows anymore. I'm really not in the mood for another dreary SGU.
Bloody Hell, I hope they don't do that again. Something along the lines of Sanctuary and Warehouse 13 would be fine with me-- neither of which are either "corny" or "dark," but simply well-written dramas. And RHW, as Christopher pointed out, is very capable of creating a show like that.

Well, yeah, the fans of both respective franchises just weren't into them. Both shows got piss-poor ratings and terrible reviews. When Caprica was pulled, they replaced it with 23 year old reruns of Star Trek TNG's first season, which got equal ratings to Caprica. That's right, just as many people tuned in for a 23 year old episode that hs a reputation for being "bottom of the barrel" that's been on DVD for eight prior and on VHS for many years before that than who tuned in for a brand new episode of Caprica.

Does anybody have rhw's e-mail or phone number at the syfy channel? I can't imagine the amount of people that are gonna want to pitch to this show let alone how to go about it from the East coast. People should only be allowed to pitch a certain amount of times before they're told to get lost. Some of those DS9ers were pitching hundreds of times before they sold something that wasn't even remotely worth it.

Shows don't generally accept outside submissions. The Michael Piller writers room was the one notable exception. The RHW show is nothing more than a pitch right now. There is not even a pilot in the works, what would people be pitching for?

Also, I'm confused by your entire post. First you ask for a phone/email, then you say people should be banned from pitching? Which is it?

Vorta, are you keeping it to yourself because you don't want him to see any good ideas? My God, women, you don't even have a pm. Are you paranoid?

He's easily found on Twitter, but how can you even know what might be good ideas for a project in development of which we don't have any concrete idea about the concept, setting, characters, technology, storytelling style, etc.?

Imagine sending what might have been a good Star Trek idea to RDM for BSG.

You know maybe I am referring to political favoritism but RWH is not that type. He's not RDM. He's basically an egoless Vulcan. He's the best guy so far to have as a space show runner. Andromeda wasn't his fault. :rommie: 10 to 1, the show is gonna be called the Defenders and is gonna be similar to Trek at least enough to pitch exploration type stories to. I wonder if Rhw knows what it's about? So far it's very much like him. :guffaw:

xortex, I thought you said you have an agent.

Although maybe I misunderstood, I also recall you recently saying that someone had once stolen some ideas from you. Why don't you speak to your agent, instead of pursuing unsolicited contact on your own?

No, I don't have an agent. I'm a composer as well to I haven't researched it yet. I also have a sci-fi pilot that's the best thing since white bread. Do you have somebody?

Yes, that counts. :rommie:

If you talked about him or her in a post, then that's why I thought you have an agent. But it's only "had" I guess.

No real information but maybe some small hints about what RHW has in mind... He's been answering questions on a variety of topics on his twitter feed but he's remained pretty hush-hush about this still untitled project.

He has said 'no comment' on whether or not aliens will be included, but also stated when asked what his preference was regarding 'alien' aliens, 'bumpy-headed aliens' or no aliens while working with a medium-sized budget (think TV), he said most likely no aliens unless you could figure out an economical way to do 'alien' aliens.

He said he's been working on the project for about a year (including the very first ideas and concepts).

He also mentioned he was in the middle of writing a space battle for the pilot at one point and when asked what his preference was (capitol ships/fighters/both), he said he liked it all, and while DS9 did WWII-style cannon and torpedoes, Andromeda had modern missile warfare, and BSG and Star Wars did dogfights, it was time for a new take (whatever that might mean).

I don't see the purpose of a pm on an open discussion board. Why not just yak here? :rommie:

And yes, I am paranoid. VERY!

But seriously, this is not the place to be asking for info on people in the biz or how to get an agent. Why do you think we'd know?

Ooookaaaay, back to the show...

Huh? Falling Skies does "alien" aliens in a fairly convincing manner on a TV budget. Maybe he should ask them.

Not that there's any reason to go that far. I think he's got a bright idea there, eschewing actual aliens in favor of "transhumans." Cybernetics and genetic engineering will create all sorts of interesting variations in humanity and it's a nice change from the bumpy foreheads.

Honor Harrington
type battles where ships are outside visual range and the fighting is depicted only on displays?

I told you to pitch your show Dennis (transhuman authority). It's got to be better than 'Untitled'. Plus it didn't have to be retro kitch, did it? RHW doesn't strike me as an original but rather a solid writer but hey if RDM can do it, who can't?

Huh? Falling Skies does "alien" aliens in a fairly convincing manner on a TV budget. Maybe he should ask them.

Falling Skies' aliens are CGI effects and possibly fairly expensive. It's not unreasonable to assume that RHW is working under the assumption of a less generous budget.

And in practice shows like Star Trek focused on the social differences of different alien races rather than the biological ones. How a Vulcan respitory system works is strictly incidental compared to their philosophy of emotional self control and logic. Distinct sci-fi cultural groups is something that RHW could do without bringing in aliens, and with transhumans quite possibly will (on the vague hunch that he's done that before with Nietzscheans).

Those are gonna need to be some pretty exciting displays (and also, Andromeda itself was fond of showing displays as far as this goes).

The important bit of this nugget for me is that they've written a space battle into the pilot episode. I'm enticed already.
