Universal to come out with "Wheel of Time" movie

Though I've been pretty critical of Jordan over the last decade or so because of the way the books seem padded out with extraneous plotlines and lengthy periods of, well, nothing happening, I'm a fan of the Wheel of Time world and think it'll be very interesting to see how they manage to adapt a very hefty storyline down to feature length films.

Count me among those dubious as to the whether the first movie would make enough money for the studio to continue to bankroll the rest of the series though.

As cool as an Eye of the World movie might be, I would prefer a series based off the books as the material is far too big for a movie. The biggest plus in having a series compared to a movie would be a more consistent design of the world, which is one of the most important things in a Wheel of Time.

I don't want it to be like the Harry Potter movies where the design and look of things change every other movie. I think it's okay for Harry Potter because the books are so separated by school years, whereas the Wheel of Time should seem like a continuous story, but it's too long of story to give it a Lord of the Rings treatment.
Seconded. I also started reading fantasy due to "Wheel of time" - the early books were very good. A pity that later books, especially after book 7, became such a mess. I think it could make a good series of movies though - there is plenty of room for editing, and dropping the extraneous fluff might actually make the end result much better. Some scenes in the book were already written in a "cinematic" way (think Dumai's Wells, for example), this could go over well on-screen.

Also Jordan had problems with Red Eagle and was going to get the rights back for the movies. He thought that the series would be better handled as a mini-series.
Might be that Jordan didnt have chance to get rights back before he died and everyone else is ok with it so movie will be made..?

That's what it looks like. There's an interview with Jordan on Dragonmount we he lays it all out.
