Uniforms?

I think I would be okay with the updated version of the TOS uniform. I would even be all right with the return of the miniskirt for nostalgia purposes (all right its not practical but it was of the period :p)

I like your idea regarding the grey uniform, however I do think it needs some colour. So how about this version of the uniform...

 That. Would. Be. AWESOME!!!

Well, maybe. As long as they are made out of velour. I mean some respect for canon, please. ;)

(Actually, those would've been better for STMP.)

I would think they will be colourful as memories of the original show invoke all the bright colours that where used, so I would say the original colour scheme will be used in favour of some bland grey x-men style jumpsuit.

Also if x-men esque bland grey jumpsuits are used instead of the primary colours on TOS they can't kill any redshirts - 'cause there will be none!

I'm thinking the Cage/WNMHGB era unis in scenes that are set early and perhaps the red, blue, gold ones near the end. As long as we don't see the ones from TMP, blahhhh.

That's fun, I changed it a little bit by using my incredible paint skills. They should definitely keep the division colors, but I think darker uniforms would look better on the big screen.

Noo don't go the generic grey/black/dark blue jumpsuit, I think they need to put some colour in there, yes update everything make it cool, new, futuristic, whatever - but every single thing should evoke a memory of the same thing from the original show - be it a phaser, a chair, a uniform, a computer console - dark jumpsuits don't do that. Take the original prop or design as a base and build upon it, but keep enough of its 'essence' to instantly bring back memories of the old.

It's not a jumpsuit. ;) But I understand why you don't like it.

That said, I still think the original uniforms were too bright, I never liked them that much.

Looks a bit too post-TNG-era to me, in fact it looks almost exactly like the uniform in the proposed new animated series. Not a bad notion though.

EDIT: Quoted the wrong person and thus looked silly.

ENT doesn't get to overwrite things we saw directly on screen in TOS just cause it was made latest. I dunno about most folks here; but TOS gets first call on 'canon' for me. I saw folks wearing sand/beige in the two pilots which probably means those colors were in use for a while since those episodes had a good decade between them if I'm not mistaken. That means longer than the TMP uniforms, I don't see anyone trying to overwrite that just because they weren't consistent with TOS or ENT or any other show.
Abrams doesn't have to do anything.

It's silly to think he'll use the sand color over the more iconic red simply because we saw it in a grand total of two episodes. I fully expect him to use the colors we're familiar with, and I'd be quite surprised if he didn't.

The only rule I'd like him to follow is the gold/red/blue rule. I actually would like him to use more modern materials and a more form-fitting, updated design. And something that looks more professional for the women.

I also like the ideas of accessories. I like the TWOK-era uniforms because there were optional vests, velour jackets, field jackets, tunics.

I wasn't saying anything of the sort. I was arguing against ENT's uniforms invalidating the pilot uniforms, not insisting that Abrams hold to them.

1. Read.
2. Think.
3. Respond.

^^
Miniskirts and beehives have their time in history. The women in this film are going to be kick ass, not standing there, clutching a space-clipboard looking at the viewscreen in fright. Plus remember that JJ likes his strong female characters. There will not be miniskirts.

The change of women from the Trek pilots (The Cage, WNMHGB) and the series was a pretty bad downgrade.

I think I mentioned this sort of in another thread, but the Underarmor catalogue looks like a list of for sale Trek wardrobe.

And in red, gold, and blue please.
