Uniforms?

im not sure it matters to much what the uniform is, but I am hoping for colour, not grey I never liked the grey uniforms.

they should go with the Yellow/Red of TOS & enterprise days

Abrams has a chance to make his mark, here, and set the sorry record straight. Command green, I say. Command green. Let's be accurate here. Canon, and all that. :vulcan: :)

It doesn't matter what color they really were. If it's onscreen, it's canon. So if it's gold onscreen, then gold is canon.

P.S. I don't really care.

My vote, as I have repeatedly annoyed people with, is for a new 'practical' design based on the uniforms of the pilots with the expedition jackets turned into sleeker duty jackets for the bridge officers and the like with a heavier version for planet-side missions.

Something along these lines:

You did a good job with this. I like it very much.

Meh. They'll be gold. That's fine. And, it's what's expected.

I just think it would be a neat thumb in the eye to those who scream for maximum accuracy and few changes. It'd be a selling point: See "Star Trek" as it was MEANT to be. Finally see the "Star Trek" 1960s filming technology COULDN'T bring you. ;)

These colors?

you know, I've been watching for 35 years, and I never noticed that. I always assumed the second pilot unformed were just blue or gold...I am shamed... :(

I'd like a modernized version of the gold/blue/red uniforms for the parts of the story that involve Kirk on the Enterprise and a modernized version of the pilot uniforms for the academy/Farragut era.

Hmmmm... how can we be sure they haven't already retconned with ENT? After all, ENT gave us the traditional TOS colors of Gold for Command, Red for Engineering, and Blue for Medical/Sciences; they just ignored the Sand color that was used in WNMHGB altogether.

Personally, I think the costume designers would be well within their bounds to just use the standard TOS colors. As for the uniforms themselves, I actually wouldn't mind if they used the WNMHGB female version over the standard TOS miniskirt; always thought it was a lot more professional-looking than what we saw throughout the rest of the series.

Enterprise also gave us purple and blue jumpsuits and the TOS movies gave us several uniforms, none of which were exactly direct evolutions between each other or entirely consistent with department colors. Even TNG switched up the colors so Picard could wear a more flattering color. Later, the red became burgundy and the blue changed shades several times.

ENT doesn't get to overwrite things we saw directly on screen in TOS just cause it was made latest. I dunno about most folks here; but TOS gets first call on 'canon' for me. I saw folks wearing sand/beige in the two pilots which probably means those colors were in use for a while since those episodes had a good decade between them if I'm not mistaken. That means longer than the TMP uniforms, I don't see anyone trying to overwrite that just because they weren't consistent with TOS or ENT or any other show.

I'd prefer something closer to what was used in "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before." I hope they don't end up wearing spandex or anything that looks like some futuristic bicyclist's suit. My hope -- and my guess -- is that the show will avoid any reference to "Star Trek: Enterprise."

I have a soft spot for the two pilot styles, too, largely because the turtleneck-pants-boots combo is close to the classic British commando look - a very distinguished and dignified way of saying "we're military and we know our stuff, even if we don't carry brass or braid".

The movie could accessorize all it wants: jackets, covers, off-duty clothing, special environment gear. All modern appetites for aesthetics could be satisfied with that, simultaneously. But keeping the underlying theme while alluding that it's the Commando Look would also work well with contemporary audiences. After all, the Commando Look satisfies the people who think "fake unisex" (extra tightness or looseness and altered waistline height depending on gender) is really sexy. And judging by the wardrobe design of scifi movies from the past quarter of a century (ever since Alien, really), that includes all the people and then some.

If they go with Cage/WNMHGB era they can avoid retconning the fact that most women wore miniskirts starting circa 2266.

Well, from the initial poster for the film it looks like gold and blue are already players, for what it's worth.

I guess the only question is are they gonna use redshirts to keep up with the legend of doomed landing party members?

Sure they did, and now it's Abrams' turn.

I'm sure there will be some blue/red/green stuff on the outfits - after all, they show up on the teaser poster. ;)

I like your idea regarding the grey uniform, however I do think it needs some colour. So how about this version of the uniform...
