Look at it another way. Collingwood's humiliating loss to the piss and poo (can I say that here?) on the weekend wasn't a deliberate insult to loyal supporters who pay their membership fees and expect to win premierships every year. The players wanted to win as much as anyone ... things don't always go to plan.
The poor writers and producers gave Kes one last hurrah and got nothing but complaints and whinging for their troubles.
No wonder famous people hate their fans.
One last hurrah? Definitely not. They deliberately ruined and destroyed the character and p***ed in the faces of the fans at the same time.
Let me explain: There was a letter campaign going for having Kes re-instated as a main character. Those in charge had two options:
1. Please the fans and bring back the character for the rest of the series.
2. Ignore the fans and don't bring back the character at all.
They did choose option 3 which was: Destroy the character as much as possible, kill her off at the end (which was the original idea) and thus show the finger to the fans who dared disturb the "gods" with silly letters. I don't think they were so incredible stupid that they really believed that the fans of Kes would
enjoy the episode.
Was there any other reason to bring back a character who they had done everything to erase from everybodys memory for one lousy episode with one only purpose, to ruin and destroy the character as much as possible.
As for Lien's involvment in the script, she didn't like the idea of killing off the character and made them change that. However, I think that she should have refused to take part in that episode. But I guess that if she had done that, they would have brought in a lookalike and killed off the character at the end, as they actually planned.
I think they ruined and destroyed the character deliberately to show the finger to the fans. If someone can prove that I'm wrong, please be my guest.
Teaming up Chakotay and Seven and by doing that, insult a large and loyal group of fans (The J/C-ers) was also a deliberate finger to a certain group of fans.
