Ungrateful Actors

I thought he was great in "The Killing Game" as the army captain or whoever he was.

Probably because there was no technobabble he had to deal with.

From what I've heard he would refuse to learn it.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why he was THE WEAKEST LINK

Goodbye. :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

I find it amazing that the actress who played NaomiWildman was able to convincingly pull off the technobabble stuff with no problem, and he wouldn't take a shot at it.

Well . . . . . . . . Good point.

That is kind of sad.

He can act, but he's probably a Bill Murray type of actor. Whiny and refuses to do work if things don't go his way.

Naomiwildman was great in Voyager. She really did put Chak and Kim to shame.

I thought Chakotay redeemed himself slightly during time when he reprised his Maquis role...

He's honest about his trouble saying it.
I would guess it must feeling like mixing in baby talk with real speech. TNG & Ds9 didn't use technobabble on the level Voy. did. I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick Stewart would have trouble saying it too.

However, say what you want about Garrett Wang but between him and Roxanna Dawson. They spoke Technobabble as if they were born speaking it. So, at least Wang earned his keep in that aspect. He actually was good at something.

You have yet to prove anything.
So take your own advice and seek to improve your own maturity.;)

Nice try. Beltran and Wang's comments about the show are well documented. So there's no need for me to prove anything further when the evidence is out there for anyone to find. You're the one going out of your way to defend their behavior. I noticed in another thread how you bashed Kate Mulgrew for her supposed treatment of Jeri Ryan. Funny how you didn't provide proof and yet here you are criticizing me for not providing any.

But you yourself pointed to Beltran's convention habits and post-Trek activities to his ungrateful attitude. Now that someone's pointed out a fallacy in that argument, you're saying it's irrelevant. You're moving the goalposts to your very own points you're trying to prove. That's the height of denial.

Wrong. How often he attends conventions and what he says at them are two separate issues. He could show up once a year or once every 5 years. It's what he says at his appearance that calls into question his motives for showing up at all. If the guy hated his job, hated his bosses, and thought Star Trek is general was garbage, then why show up at a convention at all? And if you show up just to talk about how much you hated being on the show, then why show up at yet another convention? That just gives the impression that the only reason you're showing up is to continue complaining.

Wang's head was never in the game to begin with.
He was more into his party life off set, than he was on.

Which is why he has no cause to complain. He whines about not being promoted past Ensign or not getting a chance to direct. Given his attitude and how useless his character was, he should be happy they didn't fire him.

TNG & Ds9 didn't use technobabble on the level Voy. did. I wouldn't be surprised if Patrick Stewart would have trouble saying it too.

Oh please. Terry Farrell hired an acting coach. Kate Mulgrew stayed up late. They did what it took to learn their lines. But Beltran just throws his hands in the air and says "the writing sucks so I'm not going to bother learning my lines." As Shatnertage pointed out earlier, even the actress who played Naomi Wildman could deliver technobabble. It has less to do with skill and more with how hard you're willing to work. Beltran's problem is that he just didn't want to work, but he had no problem collecting the paycheck.

I`ve to disagree.
I`ve read many articles with and about Robert Beltran and I got the impression that he`s mostly working hard for his roles.
One example: Martha Hackett about Robert:
"Well, Robert's a great guy. We had a lot of fun. He worked very hard and he's also kind of a cutter - he can get you going on the clown side. But we got an easy rapport so it made it easier, and more fun to play those scenes with sexual tension or even conflict within that. You know, we had fun."
(it`s from the wonderful "Janet`s Voyagersit"e which will close soon :(:(:( )

I disagree.
I`ve to tell this once more: I met Robert Beltran at German convention and there he didn`t bash Voyager, the show , the cast. He only critiziced parts of the show and the writers.
He was asked about his time on Voyager- what would he say, was it more positive or more negative, he said: Definately more positive.
I know about some crazy interviews and I can`t say, that I like them very much (especially the "f" words.), but some of them were taken immediately after the end of Voyager and Robert has been very angry about Endgame.
In the later interviews he sometimes joked around.
Well, I don`t agree with all of Roberts opinions, but he`s not such a bad boy who`s constantly complaining.
He`s a really nice guy in person and he`s respectfully to his fans.

Besides, doing Cons is of no reflection about how you feel about the job. I'm not sure how one could even relate two completely seperate jobs?

I'm thinking that he had some reasons for complaining and we'll never know how valid they were. All we have are stories and comments. And if Beltran sounds different altely about his Voyager years, it's likely time smoothing out the rough edges of memory and emotion, and adding perspective.

Hell, I had a lousy boss (literally wanted to kill him one time) and even after 12 years, there's a lot of anger in myv voice when I talk about him. Strong emotions take time to fade.

To actors, doing Star Trek or any other show for that matter is a JOB - first and last. They may/may not enjoy it - just like we may or may not enjoy our jobs from "time to time".

Quite honestly, I think any talk or ideas of them being "priviledged" to do Star Trek is merely a fabrication of our (as fans of show) own minds and imagination.

Many actors will say "they felt priviledged" to do a particular show just because they want another acting opportunity to appear.

propita - think we've all had a boss like that at some time. I had one of those too - but finally he was kicked out of his job and into jail for fraud - he was a real charmer!

Well said. :bolian:

I'm sorry, you're obviously confusing Star Trek with a regular 9-5. When you become a Trek Actor you become part of a sacred thing, you should be honoured to be a part and should not speak ill of it. Beltran should have been grateful he was allowed to be a part of the great Trek legacy.

Quite honestly, I think any talk or ideas of them being "priviledged" to do Star Trek is merely a fabrication of our (as fans of show) own minds and imagination.

Again, you obviously don't have the appropriate level of Trek understanding to realise that it is a very sacred privilege that should be taken seriously.

Many actors will say "they felt priviledged" to do a particular show just because they want another acting opportunity to appear.

See above.

(Also the views expressed are not necessarily the views of this poster - who happens to have a complete 180 degree view of this!!! - but it's always good to examine the other side's argument ;))

:guffaw::guffaw: Love your sense of humor!!! Never wise to take things way too seriously is it? ;)

Clearly you also don't have any understanding of what it is to be an online Trek fan. EVERYTHING is serious!

Except the Militant Janeway Fans, they act serious, but are actually the longest, most complex April Fools Joke in history!

Seriously?

Is that really necessary?

No, it's not.

Apparently we must all become drones and have to like Kirk or Picard.

:borg: Resistance is Futile!

And calm down! I'm only kidding! If this thread had been in the Ent Forum i'd have said that it was the T.H.U.G.S who were running the longest April Fools joke in history! A joke is best used when suited to it's audience!

Plus I like Janeway. Then again, I like Kirk and Picard too. I like Sisko and Archer...but which is best? There's only one way to find out...

(every Brit on the BBS - This is your cue!)
