Unfairly Cancelled Shows.

Yep, the economic argument is a non-starter. We simply don't know and the corporate honchos will never tell us. That's competitive info and they would be insane to release it to the public. Why would they, there's nothing in it for them.

The worst kinds of governments are inbred, overtly secretive, and unaccountable.

We can make educated guesses that certain shows look more expensive than others, and use industry gossip to ferret out cases where somebody's ego got out of control, but it's always going to be guesswork.

With Shark I've heard contradictory rumours of James Woods being 'difficult'.

Hard to believe. The guy seems so nice, personable and down to earth.

;)

Twin Peaks. My favorite show of all time. There has been nothing like it before or since its debut. Oh well, at least it got a prequel movie!

ah yeah, it's being run now on Chiller, i remember having a huge crush on Joan Chen when that show first aired

Twin Peaks is my favorite show after Star Trek (and maybe.....maybe Sherlock Holmes....) and I would've loved another season, but it earned the ax fairly enough.

I think the majority of the 2nd season is pretty good, and the last 3-4 episodes alone warrant a third season. That said however, David Lynch Abandoned the series to direct Wild at Heart, and Kyle MacLachlan refused to allow the Audrey/Cooper relationship to happen, which creatively stalled the show even further.

Whille the show had some tough breaks (it was pre-empted several times during the Gulf War and moved around on the schedule) I think the creative forces are ultimately responsible.

Had it been brought back though, It could've worked.

Sports Night.

This was THE BEST comedy show on television, well written, well acted, funny as hell, and smart. ABC had no idea what to do with it and replaced it every sweeps week with double runs of Dharma and Greg. When they cancelled it, I was so pissed I didn't watch ABC for two years. (OK, except for college football, had to make an exception for that.)

As I write this, I realize, I'm STILL pissed about it. I love that show.

Oh well.

There seens to be a growing consensus that American TV networks seem to be a lot more impatient and unprofessionally cavalier with their programing than they were back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. In earlier decades shows like Shark, Jericho and Pushing Daisies would've survived in a more stable climate where the Nielsen system was more accurate without the bothersome devices like Personal Computers, Machintoshes, VCRs, and TiVos skewering the ratings in the later 90s and 00s. The fact the networks never allowed many shows time to recover from the fallout of the Writer's Strike (with viewers slowly tuning back in after weeks of disrupted programing) shows that they're not very farsighted organisations.

Exactly... a show nows only has one or two shows to see if it will be on or cancelled

Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me both shows were just starting to hit their stride when they were canceled.

Quick recommendation then. Watch the unrated version of Wild Side starring Joan Chen, Anne Heche, & Christopher Walken.
