Undone (brilliant animated show on Amazon Prime)

Before I say one more word, I need to elaborate on that word "animated". This is not a show full of goofiness like Rick & Morty, Bojack, Venture Bros, Family Guy, etc. This show is a serious drama. Though it still has some comedic moments. Heck, Bob Odenkirk is in it after all.

I would highly recommend this show. There are only 8 episodes of Undone, and at 22 minutes long apiece, it's not a big commitment. The first episode introduces you to this character and her wonderful fantastic life. The second episode will clarify why I'm posting this thread on the science fiction and fantasy board.

The animation style is that realistic rotoscoping style that was in movies like A Scanner Darkly or Waking Life. The animation fits perfectly here, and the characters are very well written and feel real. That's definitely Rosa Salazar acting in this role.

Who else has watched this? Just check out those first 2 episodes.

I watched the whole thing on Friday and loved every minute of it. The series is a beautiful and deeply emotional journey about mental illness, trauma and time travel, and I think the decision to use rotoscoping animation was a stroke of genius. That form of animation is perhaps the best medium to demonstrate the chaos of all three subjects. The series may not be as heart wrenching as Kate Purdy and Raphel Bob-Waksberg's better-known BoJack Horseman, but it's just as personal. I highly recommend everyone to watch it.

I've heard lots of good things about this, but I haven't watched it yet. I definitely plan on checking it out eventually.

I, too, watched the entire series on Friday night. I highly recommend this. The story has layers that are beautifully revealed as the story progresses. The ‘acting’ really came through the animation. Well worth the time

Because of the way the season ended, I kind of don't want a second season. Every facet of the series is brilliant, but I think I would prefer it as a one and done series. However, apparently the show is in fact envisioned to be have more seasons, per this interview. They only talk about the basics of the show, but in case you want to wait until after watching, here's the relevant part:

"We see all the places it could potentially go, that keep unfolding to us as we move forward. There’s a lot of support from Amazon, which has been tremendous—a lot of collaboration with Amazon, which we love. We’re hoping to get a second season so we can continue to keep making steps towards exploring the story in a deeper way. That will definitely be a challenge as we go forward, is how to continue to tell this story and what we’re exploring."

The interview also goes into the importance of diversity, specifically a multicultural family and the idea of navigating two kinds of ancestry and identities.
