Underworld #4 - Beckinsale in 3D?

I was surprised who uncrowded the theatre was. The wife and I showed up a bit early just to make sure we had seats and we ended up having our choice.

The movie made good use of the 3D, with me actually jumping a couple of times during some "made for 3D scenes"... However, that said, I really found no use for the 3D in this movie. I am really starting to hate the fact that they do it just to do it and then not give us a choice to see it in 2D..

I have to say that without the glasses on, the film was still pretty clear and easy to watch.. I'm guessing the technology has come so far as there's almost no difference between having the glasses on and not?

The story was ok but obviously a set up for future movies.. Basically a way to re-establish the characters rather than re-boot the franchise altogether. The action was fun but the vamps (even the male lead vamp) were cookie cutter.

It had me thinking that this (if it had happened when vampires were just starting to be all the rage, pre-Twilight and True Blood) would make a good TV show.

I saw a trailer for 4 a while ago and thought it looked like mindless fun worth seeing, so not having seen the other 3 I recently caught up on them via TV/DVD and thus went to see the new one today.

Mmm, I'd say this one was the weakest. Frankly none of them are hardly classics, they're most just a mish mash of the Blade/Matrix/Reisdent Evil movies. Mostly saved by that if you're ever bored you can just admire Kate Beckinsale in tight black rubber. And god is she A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

I know nothing of the movies outside viewing them, what happened to Scott Speedman in this one then, unavailable? As it basically seems like they construced the entire plot based around him not being in it.

One thing I'll say about all four films, Jesus do they end abruptly. The movie's going along fine, some big fight, blink... oh the end credits are playing. I'm not saying every film has to be like Return of the King with 20 endings, but I don't like it when it feels like there's a mad rush to just uncarringly finish

You could argue that Speedman was "unavailable" during the first two movies as well.

I chalk it up to them dumping the dead weight. Maybe he's off making a true actor's movie with Josh Hartnett, Taylor Lautner and Channing Tatum.

Just seems odd to make the whole movie about him not being there and
the implication at the end that he's not actually dead and has escaped and Selene swears to find him, so if there is a Movie 5 he'd have to be part of it in some way. I mean when they could have just done an Alien 3 and killed him offscreen and just said "right, he's dead, move on"

Back from seeing it in 3D. Yes it has a very different feel to it, but the Corvinus story is now over, and cutting the dead weight *cough*Michael*cough* and showing the consequences of the earlier films is the focus now.

I loved the film, the only time I really jumped, like proper scary, was the first Lycan vaulting from the shadows in the Coven. Nissa was adorable even in Hybrid form and I'm looking foward to seeing the whole new
mother/daughter
dynamic and far prefer it to Mic...nah can't even bother typing his name.

Pretty gory even given how it was upped in Evolution, but anything that *starts* with
someone getting their own arm bone through their head
is not going to be pretty. I didn't really mind it though, getting more used to it in films now.

I have no sympathy for the Lycans, the first film did nothing to make me feel sorry for them, Evolution barely touched on them, RotL only had Lucian who as we see in the first movie turned to a real murdering douche anyway, but goddamn are they ever going to do something other than prove beyond doubt they should be exterminated? if it weren't for the Humans targeting both species I'd have cheered The Purge.

Nice to see Selene continuing to kick ass, seriously love the new Inox Beretta model's, someone whip up an Airsoft mod soon please?

Saw it this afternoon because a friend wanted to see it, wasn't expecting much going in to be fair, and it definitely lived up to that expectation. Even my friend who wanted to see it didn't think it was up to much, said it was the worst of the lot.

To be fair, I only thought the first was any good, so I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for my friends wanting to see it. So it's not like I'm really gonna have much to say either way.

But Michael was in it, albeit briefly.. I didn't notice who the actor was in the credits, and in fact, I didn't even see Michael listed... Or did I just miss it? Wiki said they pulled some footage from part 1 or 2 and then had a standin for the underwater and upside down scenes Michael is in (ala George McFly in Back to the Future 2).. LOL!!

I also looked to see who was playing the Michael part and they did not list one. I found that odd since the actor playing him had a few minutes of screen time.
Not listed on IMDB either.

Does it really matter? He was a non-presence in the film, his absence was the point. So wondering who played him is like wondering who played Person in Background 3.

I'm wondering much more how these films keep attracting decent actors to them when they're so rubbish. How did they get Bill Nighy, Charles Dance, Derek Jacobi, and others to take roles? Do they have pictures somewhere?

Lucrative, fun work, perhaps, or maybe actors just need to pay bills like anyone else. So long as there's bombs, gunfights, vampires and werewolves the movie will fulfill what I expect of it. My only criticism is that it doesn't seem to open in Seoul till Feb 23.

Given the interviews with the cast they all had a great time making the movies and looked forward to appearing again. I don't know what Speedman's particular reason for not doing 4 were but he went back to do Evolution readily enough, mind you that was 6-7 years ago now.

Really enjoyed the movie and looking foward to the next two installments, the returns on Awakening should at least allow for the 5th one if not the full second trilogy.

Ultimately a Human/Vampire alliance with one unified coven living alongside the human world would be a good ending, Selene's redundancy as a Death Dealer no longer matters since she can now settle down to raise Nissa. The absense of Michael doesn't bother me.

Another thing, did anyone else think that uber-werewolf guy looked like Chris Martin from Coldplay? Ha I actually thought it was him at first.

Just looked him up, Kris Holden-Ried... he looks exactly like him!

I wonder how Coldplay fans reacted to the grenade scene, as though millions of emo's cried out at once.

I said the same to my friend when he first showed up.

Awakening had a solid Monday, much to the dismay of some on the box office forums. UA scored another $2.1m on Monday to bring it's domestic total up to $27.4m. The idea is that since the third installment Rise of Lycans saw a drop without Kate it only makes some sense that her return would bolster the numbers seen in it's opening weekend and this Monday number.
