Underworld #4 - Beckinsale in 3D?

^ Dang, you beat me to it!

And I guess I'd heard that it had been filming in TO, not that it was going to be. :)

^One random guy I think I recognize in that trailer is the guy that played the main police detective in V For Vendetta.

What was wrong with the Mummy III, you ask? Why on EARTH did it need to take place so much later? I really didn''t LIKE the O'Connell boy in that movie, and would have preferred him in his 7 year old form. And don't EVEN get me started on the fake Evy... Rachel Weiss is awesome enough to pay more to keep her, or re-schedule if film times conflict.

Eh. I'd say the bigger problem with the movie was one of timing. The 1st 2 Mummy movies were so successful, IMO, because they provided a refreshing substitute for Indiana Jones, who at the time hadn't been seen on the silver screen in 10-12 years. Unfortunately, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor came out during the same year as the long-awaited Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Why would we want to watch an anemic Indiana Jones rip-off when we've got the real (watered down) thing? I think Tomb of the Dragon Emperor would have done better had it come out in 2007 or earlier.

I wonder how much screentime Beckinsale will have in this? Will it be more than a hand-off cameo?

Good point. We can't necessarily even rely on the trailer for that. IIRC, most trailers for The Grudge 2 focused on Sarah Michelle Gellar's character even though she was only a hand-off-cameo in that movie. (Not to mention all the TV spots for The Incredible Hulk that seemed to focus entirely on the 30 second Tony Stark cameo at the end!)

Drew if I unerstand you correctly your upset over two things.
  • Timeline issues
  • No Michael in this next installment
I get your wanting to craft a linear timeline. As Star Trek fans that bond these boards together we've all gone through our share of episodes/movies where reconciliation has to happen.

It's why I'd like to have seen another prequel movie or two that further fleshes out the events known, and unknown, about Kraven and Amelia.

I'm a big torn about Michael. On the one hand, it would be nice to see him for continuity. On the other hand, Scott Speedman was by far the worst thing about the movies so far, just so much dead weight.

I'd be interested in seeing another prequel, particularly one about Amelia & her relations with Markus & Viktor.

At least I don't think there are any huge timeline problems in the franchise at this point, nothing that really makes me go . Viktor being a habitual liar & revisionist can sometimes make things a bit difficult to nail down but other things we can know for certain. I certainly doubt that the caption at the beginning of the prologue of Underworld: Evolution would lie about the date.

The biggest point of confusion for me used to be the 2 different wars that seemed to be going on between the Vampires & the 2 different Lycan breeds. Thankfully, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was much more clear about how the new Lucian-breed of Lycans evolved.

^ Trailers can be deceptive. The scene with the lycan could be in an entirely different scene from the one where Selene asks where Michael is. Anyway, Michael's hybrid form didn't look like as wolfy as that big one did, unless he's evolved further during the prior 12 years.

its been rumored that the actor who played Michael isn't in this new film. i guess if he has mutated its a way of having, yet not having the character in the film

The trailer looked okay. It didn't grab me, though there's no way I'm not going to see this film. Underworld has been one of my favorite franchises of the last decade. I am a little underwhelmed by the big nasty werewolf that appeared at the end. I hope that isn't the all powerful monster that Selene was referring to earlier in the trailer. I was hoping to see something different, new. Evolution did such a bang up job with Marcus's design, I was hoping they would top that. We've already seen an uber werewolf with William in Evolution.

In any event it's good to see Beckinsale back. And I'm pleasantly surprised that it seems like she will be in the film more than I thought she would.

On the heels of the teaser trailer comes the teaser poster.

P.S. - Any chance a mod could retitle the thread to Underworld: Awakening?

The first teaser trailer has been released!

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810201539/video/26345088

It appears that the plot in this movie is more stand-alone, unlike Evolution, which was a continuation of the first movie.

 holy shit, ugh I hate having to wait until January for this.

This looks like fun. I'm so happy Kate is back.

It does, and although I might be alone in this I'm happy Michael is more or less absent from the film, I could never stand him for too long. Seeing Kate back is great too, but still, long wait.

I couldn't care less about the absence of Michael either, but I have to say that from what I saw in the trailer, I can't say that I'm all that enthused about the movie either. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just doesn't seem to have the Underworld vibe to me. Could be the new directors...

It does seem like Kate is doing a lot more stylistic/gymnastic-like movement. Some of it looks cool, but some look strange.

A new poster has been released for Underworld: Awakening coming out in 2 short months!

Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

I'm not really feeling it... and considering I have one poster from Underworld and two from Evolution on my wall that's saying something. ;)

The newest trailer for this hit the web yesterday. I just came across it. Some sprinkled new moments in there but feels about 90% like the first trailer. Shots of her daughter seem to be the new material here.

Looks good and no sparkly vampires in sight, just fun with guns, bombs, and the undead.
