Underworld #4 - Beckinsale in 3D?

^ I sure hope they at least reference him to explain what happened to him. Can we assume he's the father of Selene's daughter? Maybe we'll see him cameo in a new flashback to explain things.

i hope Micheal shows up. i would hate to see him written out of the story at this point.

The actor they had as Beckinsale's co-lead in the first two movies wasn't very good, I seem to recall. I don't even know his name but IMO he prevented the movies from being much better than they should have been. I thought she wasn't interested in making another one. I like her boots.

Scott Speedman. And yeah... he was about as present as a rock. He didn't seem to have much chemistry at all with Beckinsale

I think we're all forgetting a very important detail about this movie.

Will Greg Cox be writing the novelization? ;)

yeah Id assume he's been killed off but they better at least explain how they were able to kill off such a powerful hybrid...

Maybe he's been captured and being studied. Would be an additonal motivational point for Selene. After all we know that William Corvinus(first pure werewolf) was imprisoned so that is a theme within this universe. To imprison the powerful.

My office just got a note from the produiction company that they're filming around here tomorrow. Here's what they're filming:

Friday April 8, our filming will take place. In order to minimize disruption to residents we have changed locations from 1000/1100blks W Pender. Our anticipated start time will be at 6:00pm and work will continue until approximately 7:30am, Saturday April 9. The scenes we will be filming involve a driving stunt where a truck skids to a stop and a fight sequence occurs between two characters. During this sequence there will be a simulated gunfire special effect (this sounds similar to a firecracker). An additional scene will be filmed on Hastings near the pedestrian overpass. A number of lights on stands as well as three lighting lifts will be used during this filming. Every effort will be made to minimize the ‘kick’ that these lights have off of neighbouring buildings. The area will be brighter than usual.

Cool!

I am a big fan of the underworlds series, and the"legacy" parts of the movie where many critics seem to have the most problems is where I am the most interested. If you aren't familiar with what I am talking about, just google underworld and read some of the reviews.

I'm having huge troubles putting together a timeline in my own mine of the movies, though, which brought me here looking for other fans who might have access to more information... such as:
The fact that Viktor was such a revisionist works for the writers, where the odd references to "6 centuries ago" can be explained away if the time-line doesn't work... but not for me. We as fans do not receive specifics on how old ANYONE is in these movies except perhaps Michael. Saying Viktor made up dates and legacies as he saw fit works as a quick fix, but it gets old if it is used for everything.

As far as 3D part 4... blah. Worst, it seems like all the interesting aspects of the first 2 movies, such as MICHAEL, aren't even going to be involved... they are using Michael and Selene's offspring for the new "hybrid superbeing"? WHY? Lucian worked soooo hard to make the hybrid known as Michael, and we find out in the last 5 minutes of Evolution that Michael is indeed a super "more than meets the eye" immortal. Even Selene was sure he was dead from the injuries he received from Marcus, and Michael was all, "Only a flesh wound."

You could even argue that Michael WAS the point of these movies, in that he is the next "evolution" of the immortals and their drama/daddy issues. Now they aren't going to take it any farther?? Worst, they felt the need to create something else entirely in Selene's daughter? In essence, this is like saying, "Well, we are going to have World War III, but nukes are like totally last century. We need a NEW weapon of mass destruction!!"

I am hoping for the best, but just like the Mummy III (yeah, I'm a sucker for action movies)... writers and producers these days seem to be far too willing to throw the baby out with the bath water.

What was wrong with the Mummy III, you ask? Why on EARTH did it need to take place so much later? I really didn''t LIKE the O'Connell boy in that movie, and would have preferred him in his 7 year old form. And don't EVEN get me started on the fake Evy... Rachel Weiss is awesome enough to pay more to keep her, or re-schedule if film times conflict.

I thought Speedman was okay. I hope they at least reference him, though a flashback would be cool too. I wonder how much screentime Beckinsale will have in this? Will it be more than a hand-off cameo?

Drew if I unerstand you correctly your upset over two things.
  • Timeline issues
  • No Michael in this next installment

I get your wanting to craft a linear timeline. As Star Trek fans that bond these boards together we've all gone through our share of episodes/movies where reconciliation has to happen.

It's why I'd like to have seen another prequel movie or two that further fleshes out the events known, and unknown, about Kraven and Amelia.

Michael may not appear here but if this movie doesn't say he's dead he could appear again if the film is a hit. Heck, even if it says he's dead all it takes is a creative rewrite to fix that.

Let's wait and see what Underworld 4 reveals.

Oh, and hope you peruse the other forums we've got a lively community here, welcome.

Underworld 1 and 2 happen over 2/3 days in late 2003, Underworld 4 takes place around 2018. Selene has apparently fallen into a coma due to the events of Evolution (probably due to Alexanders blood), but yes Nissa is her and Michaels daughter. It would seem Michael died and was possibly dissected for study in those years.

I will give it a look. I did not really enjoy the second film, and sort of enjoyed Lycans.

The first one was the strongest. I will be interested to see if the 4th does anything with the series' potential.

I know a lot of Underworld fans want another prequel and more focus on Amelia and Kraven, but I never saw the need to go that route. Why make a movie to just fill in some plot points or flesh out a couple characters? Amelia was hot and intriguing, but I don't think that justified making a film around her and Kraven pretty much told us what significant role he played in the Vampire-Lycan history in the first film.

Fleshing out their backstories would probably work better in a comic book series or novels. Or if they wanted to get real creative do some webisodes. I'm glad Underworld 4 is moving forward with the story and keeping the focus on Selene and Nissa, who I'm assuming they will be passing the torch to.

Has anybody heard anything new about the production? On ETalk tonight I think they mentioned Beckinsale would be in Toronto to start filming very soon or "this summer".

They've already been shooting. The dateline in this link from page 4 is March 16 showing some first shots of Kate during filming.

Maybe they are doing pick-ups?
Principal photography could likely be done. Seems right that they might have moved on to Post at this point. Some pickups though aren't unheard of though.
