Underrated TV Shows.

I'd say Enterprise as a whole falls into the underrated category. It had no greater percentage of bad episodes than TNG or DS9, but it had the bad luck of coming at a time when the fan base was wanting a divorce from the then-current production regime, and nothing could have been done to save it, or the TV franchise at this point, IMO.

I'm sorry but that's simply not the case, no matter what Enterprise fans want to believe. I'm sick of hearing those excuses.

Enterprise had over 13 million viewers for it's pilot episode, I think it got the highest ratigns ever for UPN. People wanted to like it, no one wanted a "divorce" from the creators. It sucked, the old creators made a bad show full of horrible characters, that's why the show "failed", that was after the fact. The fans were there, they ditched, live with the facts.

Agreed. It was an AWFUL show. It had a MUCH higher percentage of bad episodes that TNG or DS9, along with stiff boring characters.

It was utterly lacking in ideas.

I will say this: the pilot gave me great hope. It was more of a Wild West than we had seen in a long time, with weirder locations and odd baddies. And then...

Bleh.

If the pilot gave people such "great hope", how come they didn't stick around for at least a couple more shows after that one? The steep drop happened right after the pilot. Methinks the pilot didn't give a lot of people "great hope".

That said, I wish it hadn't been canceled. I loved Season 3, and Season 4 was well done (with some pockets of mediocrity). I was looking forward to the latter seasons... looking forward to the formation of the Federation. Oh well.

UPN highest ratings ever was the pilot of Voyager that scored around 26 million I think and ended up 5-6 million by the end. Enterprise had big issues but improved vastly over the final 2 years and I still feel if kept on wednesday nights that the 4th season could of done decent work and saved the show for at least one more year.

Yeah, that Friday night slot was a disaster. They move all soon-to-be-canceled shows to that slot, don't they? Haven't they moved Supernatural there?

Funny, though, the X-Files did great in that slot. And then it moved to Sunday nights. But TXF is another story altogether.

And yes, DS9 never got the love it deserved (... even now). Btw, the DS9 pilot was huge too. And then the big drop happened, as well. I've just accepted it to be the fate of trek on TV since then.

Supernatural is dirt cheap compared to Enterprise and The CW don't mind it getting virtually the same ratings as ENT season 4 did for UPN.

Well, the kind of ratings ENT did end up getting were actually okay for a show on UPN.

Thats when UPN began there mission of aiming for female 18-34 viewers only, which is one of the reasons The CW continues to tank.

ST is a big boys club sadly especially when ENT went more action orintated in the later years, ironically pushed upon by the network .

I thought both S3 and S4 were a healthy mix of both romance and action. I didn't always LIKE the romance (even though I'm a girl! Oh, the irony ;)), but I didn't have a problem with the mix. UPN was a crappy network though. We all knew that. I wish ENT had been on skiffy, or even TNT or Spike.

I have a lengthy list of series that I personally consider to be underrated, but I'm going to limit myself to just five:
John Doe
Vanished
Reunion
Wolf Lake
The WB's Tarzan

Party Down (VERY funny, can't believe it got cancelled!)
Weeds (I gave up on it in S1, but I'm jumping back into S5 on DVD - clever, fast-paced, some terrific comic actors in the mix)

Party Down was canceled because all the main characters left the show right?

Weeds season 5? You are kidding me right? That is the worst of the worst of the worst seasons. I think you are the only one who likes season 5. It's not underrated, it's rated correctly. You viewpoint is just wrong. ;)

Andromeda.

Not a great show perhaps, but not quite as bad as most folks say it is. Even with it's obvious faults after the second season. If you just accept it as a space opera with a tragically low per-episode budget, it's just fine.

If I watched the first seasons of TNG and ENT, both widely derided, I'd probably find the first season of Enterprise slightly more watchable.

And while I can cherry pick some amazing episodes from Voyager that I've enjoyed almost as much as the best episodes from TOS/TNG/DS9, I found the earlier seasons and the final season under Biller, IMO, disproportionately duller and goofier.

I'll add Community and Better Off Ted to the list.

Community took awhile to hit its stride, but starting with its first season Halloween episode it became the funniest show on TV currently airing.

Better Off Ted was hilarious from the start, but died a swift death.
