Underrated Movies.

Here is my shortlist of movies that I feel are underrated. Not all of them are box office failures, but were critically panned and widely disliked by most fans of the genre it was in, for example. Whiles others were critically acclaimed at the time, but get forgotten about within fifteen years:

The Fifth Element
Total Recall
Starship Troopers
Galaxy Quest
Cypher
No Escape
Titan AE
Serenity
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
The Great Mouse Detective
The Land Before Time
The Iron Giant
Pitch Black
Resident Evil
Mission Impossible 3
Dead Man’s Chest
Tomorrow Never Dies
Moonraker
The Black Hole
A Fistful of Dynamite
3:10 to Yuma (remake)
Antz
Alien 3
The Long Kiss Goodnight

And I've nearly left out: :shifty:

The Rocketeer
The Phantom
The Shadow
The Mummy
Robin Hood (1990)
Brazil
Darkman III: Die Darkman Die

For me

Alien 3 (the original although not as good as the first two is a good movie in its own right while the extended cut is outstanding)
Daredevil
Die Hard with a Vengance
Ghostbusters 2 (Not as good as the first but its really fun and Vigo was a right bastard!)
Excorsist 3
Licence to Kill
Dog Soldiers

I'll probably get burnt at the stake as a hieratic for this, but...

The Postman

As for some of the ones listed above; 3:10 to Yuma? The Land Before Time? Pitch Black? Laputa? The Iron Giant?! Who the hell underrates these? As far as I'm aware they'er...uh...rated just the right amount.

I always thought that Galaxy Quest was pretty well received by the critics and did rather well at the box office. Maybe not gangbusters, but didn't it do pretty well? It seems to still be well regarded by most genre fans.

For my part, in addiiton to those mentioend so far, I always felt that these were underrated, by whatever criteria suits the argument best:
October Sky
My Life
Regarding Henry
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
A Walk in the Clouds
The Abyss

Broken Arrow (1996)
Chronicles of Riddick
Commando
Constantine
Enemy at the Gates
Eraser
I, Robot
Independence Day
Iron Monkey
Last Action Hero
The Mummy (1999)
The Mummy Returns (2001)
The One
The Punisher (2004)
Tremors
True Lies
V for Vendetta
We Were Soldiers

I definitely agree about The Great Mouse Detective. It's one of my favorite Disney movies yet seems to be largely unheard of by most.

Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home
Star Trek Generations
Star Trek Insurrection
Ducktales - The Movie
Dark City (1998)
Bean
Mr. Beans Holiday
The World Is Not Enough
Tomorrow Never Dies
Batman (1989)
Batman Returns
Batman Mask Of The Phantasm
Batman & Mr Freeze Subzero
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Mars Attacks
Beetlejuice
Edward Scissorhands
The Mummy (1999)
The Mummy Returns
The Mummy Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor
Monkeybone
Bedazzled (2000)
The Simpsons Movie
Star Trek First Contact
Pirates Of The Caribbean - Dead Mans Chest
Pirates Of The Carribean - At Worlds End
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Die Another Day
Johnny Dangerously
Johnny English

Without even a hint of an apology I'm adding Hot Rod, Short Circuit, Flight Of The Navigator and Tron to the list

Why would you even consider apologising for Short Circuit, Flight Of The Navigator and Tron? ;)
I have to say again, allot of the films listed so far aren't "underrated" at all. Most were either box-office successes or have become cult classics.

Now; Explorers, THAT'S underrated!

I kinda of got a soft spot for the very dippy but flash Dracula 2000: a charismatic Gerald Butler as Count 'Judas' Dracula before he got very famous, Johnny Lee Miller as a Cockney ham, Christopher Plummer as a Hammer Horror style vampire hunter, and Jeri Ryan as a busty vampire henchwoman. What's not to love?

The Naked Gun - From The Files Of Police Squad
Naked Gun 2 1/2 - The Smell Of Fear
Naked Gun 33 1/3 - The Final Insult
Rat Race
Hot Shots
Hot Shots Part Deux
Spy Hard
Airplane! 2 - The Sequel
Airplane!

Most of these films are very popular indeed. I don't think you understand the title of the thread.

Pirates movies, 2nd and 3rd are underrated, only the first is liked the most

All the Star Trek movies are basically underrated. Yeah First Contact may be talked about and liked most by some, but that is mainly Trek fans and this movie hardly makes the top ten sci fi movies list, it is always Star Trek 2.

Mummy movies were a big hit, no one talks about them anymore

Same with Brosnan's Bond films, ever since the two remakes, they are basically non existant, same with the other bond films. You going to really say Lazenby's Bond film is not underrated? yeah sure

Get it??

No film is talked about as much as when it first comes out, with a few exceptions. Geddit?

Gone With the wind, Casablanca to name a few (so many out there that it is more than than a few exceptions), so no, I don't understand what you say because it is not true get it
