I'm still not entirely sure how Adelaide shooting herself reset the timestream but yeah, probably better than giant dragons showing up!

It means the base exploded as it was supposed to, Adelaide died that day and didn't cause a butterfly effect and her granddaughter was still inspired to pilot the first warp ship later on.
So the fixed point in time stays intact.

The other difference in the timeline is that there are now two members of the expedition who are now alive who weren't previously, and that should have a significant change on the universe. I'd imagine that Adelaide's granddaughter possibly went into space to find the mysterious person who saved them, and then ask him why her grandmother killed herself in the end. I'd be somewhat curious to see how that played out, as I wonder what The Doctor would do when faced with that?

The other two were nobodies though, Ten says as much, their survival wouldn't have the impact on the future that Adelaide's would.

Yes, what needed to happen was no Bowie One base anymore and gradnchild going to space later. the rest didn't influence history that in a meaningful way.

Had the Reapers shown up they would have had to pay Paul Cornell royalties.

Ironic considering the Reapers are very reminiscent of Alan Barnes' Vortisaurs from "Storm Warning."

I really liked "Under the Lake." It's a base that's under siege! Classic! And I love the cards. And the overall relationship between the Doctor and Clara. And because it's a 2 parter, the guest stars get a lot more development, more like the classic series.

Definitely my favorite episode of the season so far. (Not that it's been much of a horse race so far. The first episode was just a mess of continuity porn and the second was merely a middling Dalek story.)

And I didn't have a problem with the Doctor not understanding sign language. I'm used to the Star Trek convention of the universal translator selectively not working for dramatic effect.
