Unaired Pilot of Lost In Space-2004

Here's where I think the series was going. Of course the Robinson's were going to visit different planets and areas of space where they'd interact with different types of aliens....something akin to Star Trek. I believe that the relationship between Judy and Don would have been WIDELY explored. I can see the turmoil there knowing that John would not be too crazy about the relationship. Remember in the pilot, when Maureen told John that Judy was having boy problems? John answered her by saying just point me in the right direction and I'll kill him. Plus the fact that Don is scared witless that John will discover about his and Judy's amorous past. Will's job would be the same as in the original series. He'd be the character that the younger/child audience would identify with. Will wouldn't have Dr Smith, the Robot, or Penny to get in trouble with...but we see he is a genius and quite curious....this alone could place the Robinson's in the same circumstances as in the original. Will going off...of doing something he see's as scientific...but places the Robinson's in jeopardy. The Robot would have evolved in time into a character all it's own...quite different from the Robot in the original. I think he would have been more of an android...and would have been robotic, but have the appearance of a human. I think he would have eventually been close to what "Data" was on Next Generation. Unfortunately, Penny is only an infant...so her part would have been greatly diminished in this version. Maureen is a doctor and scientist... she would have had a greater part to play in this version...they would have depended upon her greatly, not just because she was the mother...but because of her importance of being a medical doctor and a scientist. John was a military Colonel and experienced military leader. In command of the Jupiter II, he would have had the same expectations as any captain of a ship. Think of Kirk, Janeway, Piccard...except he has the excess burden of the responsibility of having his family aboard. Now about David. Just what happened to poor David? This alone would have kept me watching...especially since John insists that he will discover a way find David. It's possible that David could have been captured and brainwashed by the aliens. Sort of how Picard was with the Borg for a short time. I read on another thread that the Doctor Smith character was too important to leave out. I personally didn't miss him although I was a fan of his in the original. I personally believe that David is tied into the alien and Smith subplot. I'll post my feelings about Smith...and what part he may, or may not have played in this potential series.

Okay. Here's where I think they were going with David and possibly Dr. Smith. We have to remember...that in the beginning of the original series, Smith was not the blundering fool that he developed into. Smith was in the military. I think he might have been a Colonel...but I'm not sure. He was definitely a high ranking officer. He was also evil, crafty, sinister, greedy, intelligent, and knew exactly what he was doing. His plans were to destroy the Jupiter II mission...in exchange for money. Smith didn't give a rip that children were aboard...he didn't possess a conscience at this time during the series. Smith was offered a bribe by a faction who were against the mission and Alpha Control. Well...what I think would have happened in the 2004 series, is that Zachary Smith would have reappeared. Would he have been a doctor or a Colonel? I'm not sure....but he would have definitely been high ranking in the military. Remember in the Pilot? Nobody had seen or heard from the attacking aliens in about 15 years. Then they appear out of nowhere...broadcasting a signal that made the computers of the Space Station Jupiter, to think that the space around Earth was empty and safe. I've wondered how the aliens knew exactly when to appear...just at the right time. I've also wondered how they managed to dupe the computers aboard the Jupiter Space Station. The aliens had technology...but it would have been their own technology...very different from human technology. Yet, everything almost went perfectly for the aliens. Who would have helped the aliens??? Giving them classified information...and ways to trick the Jupiter Space Station computers? Who would be so evil and dastardly that they'd do something like that? There's only one answer....Zachary Smith. I think the series would have eventually brought Smith back. By working with the aliens...Smith was promised untold riches as well as a high rank among the aliens. Thus, not only had Smith worked with the aliens....he still is. I think that Smith (with the aliens) would have eventually turned up and confront the Robinsons. However, Smith has a plan...he has David held on board as prisoner. We have to forget the Smith that evolved in the original Lost In Space....and remember what he was like in the beginning. This Smith would have been a menace...and truly evil. Smith would be a force horrible and tragic...that the Robinson's would have to face again and again (making some really great and interesting episodes.)

I kind of liked the pilot personally, although the visual effects were unfinished I did like the dynamic of the family and I've always liked Adrianne Palicki.
