Umami Burger in LA

Actually I think In-N-Out is one of those chains whose owner is a rabid fundamentalist Christian. If I am not mistaken they were the ones who put bible sayings on the bottom of their cups.

That's true, the chapter-and-verse citation, anyway.

In-N-Out is OK, but if you can't find a locally-owned joint that's better you're either not looking hard enough or you're in a deprived area!

Darn it!

We didn’t get to stop there!

Our trip went well, but we were concerned with getting back over the Grapevine to get home, that we left earlier in the day than we might’ve. We drove into snow flurries--but only flurries. They were predicting snow to the 1000’ level and even the 500’ level, and the Grapevine tops out over 4000’, so we wanted to make sure we got over in case it was closed.

**sigh**

I guess this leaves us looking forward to going in the future.

As for good local burgers, we still like the $6 burger at Flemings’ Happy Hour. Totally excellent, dude! And the other items on their (short) Happy Hour Menu are all $6 and are great. So if you ever wanted to try carpaccio, here’s your chance. We did (curiosity) and really liked it. Btw, it’s VERY rare, VERY thinly sliced beef with some dressing drizzled over it. We like our meat cooked to medium well, but loved the very rare carpaccio.

^ Sorry you did not get to sample the burgers, propita!

I must confess, I now feel a bit like the kid in the old Tootsie Pop commercials who wants to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, but even Mr. Owl proves to be of no help. So how will we ever find the answer?

"The World May Never Know!...."

I'll blaspheme and say that I don't think In 'n Out Burger is very good period. I remember shortly after I moved to LA some of my friends made a fairly big deal out of how I had to try In 'N Out. I expected something special and instead got an entirely mediocre burger and fries, whose main distinguishing feature was the Animal Sauce, which I found slightly disgusting.

I later tried their stuff without the sauce and it left no impression on me either way. Lots of people down here clearly love it, though, judging by the lines. There's a joint I pass by on my way to work every day and the drive-through is always backed up into the street, to the point of causing minor traffic jams.

Yes, Sir... you do much blasphemesize... In 'N Out is frakking awesome, and delicious. Their fries are great! The only complaint I have about them, is that their establishments are always beyond crowded, and the drive-thru line is horridly long. But I love the food.

But my favorite will always be Carl's Jr.
