Ultimately Human: February 2011

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Sorry for the delay today, folks. Been sick as a dog. Haven't even been on-line much at all past few days. Some sort of virus masquerading as a head-cold. Had the worst headache of my life last night, and I used to get migraines as a kid, so that should tell you something!

Anywhom, here we go, in before the buzzer of 12:00 AM on the 15th. This month's Ultimately Human.

You've all no doubt noticed, I've been featuring more and more guest stars and been much less centric on our series regulars. This is for two reasons. First up, finding material on our regulars to keep this thing going is more difficult than you can imagine! But second, and the real reason? I think it's way frakking cool to see a lot of these guest stars, whom we normally only see under full make-up.

When I run across someone whom I imagine folks will have trouble saying "well who the hell did they play?" I'll be doing that image juxtaposed against a TrekCore.com screen cap, with a text caption. But I don't want to do it so often, so if you ever spot someone and can't place them, please post here to ask and I (or I imagine somebody else) will happily help you put a character to a face.

My Favorites:
1st Row, Right: Badass Captain Robau! Farin Tahir.

2nd Row, Right: J. Paul Boehmer -- he was the Nazi XO in 'Killing Game' and the 29th century titular 'Drone' from Voyager. He also did an ENT episode, I believe.

3rd Row, Center: Leonard Nimoy early 1990s Holiday Card photo? Maybe? I dunno. He's wearing scarf and sweater surrounded by evergreens!

6th Row, Right: Zoe Saldana looking smokin' hot!

Which Ones Are Your Favorites?

Oh, and, interesting tid-bits...

While looking for new materials last week, I found out two little trivia things.

The fellow who played Michael Eddington on DS9? Yeah, he runs a health spa and fitness center now. No joke.

And Dukat's daughter, Ziyal? Not quite sure how to describe her job, but, small world? She lives IN THE SAME COUNTY AS ME. Literally. She's like, half-hour drive away. Isn't that weird?

The Philly area has many Trek connections -- Terry Farrell lives (or last I'd heard) out in Hershey PA (yeah, the chocolate city) which is about hour-thirty-minute drive for me. Bob Picardo and Jimmy Darren are both native Philadelphians. Jonathan Frakes is originally from Bethlehem, which is 45 minutes north of me. The list goes on...

Still, it's a bit strange to find out somebody like that lives half an hour from you, you know? Luckily I'm not a stalker-type, lol.

My favorites:

1st row, left: Anthony Montgomery - wonderful photo!
3rd row, center: Leonard Nimoy - I just love him.
5th row, center: Scott Bakula - him too + he looks perfectly Sam Beckett-y in that one.
6th, row center: William Shatner - love the outfit and the pose.

My favorites this round:
-Leonard Nimoy, of course
-Tahir, Faran Tahir... in a very James Bond-ish looking photo (check the first name spelling)

That photo of Leonard Nimoy used to be sent out to the people who joined his fan club. I have it somewhere.. I belonged to the fan club when I was about 12.

It's quite likely a Quantum Leap publicity still. :p

It sucks we'll never see more of him in Trek. :(

Neat!

Aww, that is so nice! I wish I were in his fan club back in those days...

Well, yeah, that makes sense.:techman: Why it didn't occur to me, I don't know. I couldn't think over the sound of how awesome he is, probably.

I wish I was, too! Back then I had never heard of a fan club, or I'd have joined. I really thought I must be the only person who liked Star Trek, no one I knew did.

It's amazing how many people simply don't make mention of such, almost hiding it by omission.

Known this guy for over a year, we've talked tons of other stuff, and Trek has come up with me while talking to others with him around, and he never joined in, never said anything, until the other day when he was telling me about Netflix getting Trek for streaming, which was good because he only owned TOS, TNG and DS9 on DVD.

So I was like, "WTF? You bought the $90 (originally) box sets of each season of the first three series, but you've never once said a damn thing about Trek before right now?" :p:rolleyes:

Being Star Trek you can never be sure, flash backs, different characters, ... own series?

Yeah, but this is new Trek. I don't think the old rules apply.

If we're lucky, I'd imagine them someday making a novel about the adventures of the Kelvin prior to the events of the film, which would feature Robau.
