(UEFA) Football Thread - Football not Soccer

Yeah so we're told. If there's any progress at our place then it's positively snail-paced incremental improvement year upon year. By our current standards we should hope to challenge for the playoffs in about another decade.....

I'd pay good money to see Wolves and Blackburn go down, t'would be positively hilarious!

I'm actively willing those two to go down. They, Bristol and Peterborough have been the worst teams I've seen (live) this season and deserve it. Bonus factors: Darren Ferguson is incredibly unlikable; Wolves going down would be hilarious; Blackburn going down might actually see the end of the Venkys and help them in the long run.... and would be hilarious; Bristol City getting relegated is beyond hilarious.

Burnley, Millwall and Leeds were all awful this year too.

I have a lot of time for Dean Saunders so I'd quite like Wolves to stay up if I'm honest.

We won't be in a position to challenge for the play offs until we sign a halfway decent championship goal scorer unfortunately.

Meh, all this fuss. Simple solution....

Bayern is scary good this year...

eta: 4:0, fuck me. And Barcelona with maybe 1 1/2 chances to score in the whole game if we're being generous. When was the last time Barcelona has been so thoroughly dominated?

There was a bit of fortune around a couple of the goals (Gomez looked offside, just, and how was Mueller's bodycheck NOT a foul during Robben's goal?!), but the scoreline really didn't flatter Bayern, they were utterly brilliant from start to finish. TBH, I don't really think it matters who makes it out of the other SF, Dortmund or Real, I can't see either of them beating Bayern.

Edit: Just had a quick look at Marca, apparently only three of Bayern's goals were 'illegal'.....!

I don't know, Gomez may have been offside, but disagree about the foul at the third goal. The German commentator I was listening to was also very upset about it and called it clearly illegal, but I'm not so sure. Basically the Barca player just ran into him, I mean he can't disappear exactly. If I had been a ref I would have let it stand.

Damn.. looks like my dream finale may come true.. Bayern vs. Dortmund (and in England on top of it! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:)

Baring a catastrophic drop off in play quality the finale should be sealed after the thorough domination of the german teams over the spanish teams.

Looking forward to next weeks 2nd semifinals and then off to the finale!

If having two German teams at Wembley is the price to be paid for seeing Barcelona's utter annihilation then I'm more than happy with that.

Disappointing.

I was looking forward to their inevitable playoff capitulation. Now I couldn't give a toss about the playoffs. :(

Shouldn't complain too much though, Agent Davros is doing a sterling job of raising the expectation levels up there. Beating them just isn't the same when they come expecting a good hiding. :(
