Ubuntu/VMWARE Problem

I downloaded and installed Ubuntu Linux via VMWARE and tried to use it only to find that I am completely unable to log on. It asks for a password but I never created one. Is there a universal initial password for Linux distros and if so, what is it? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

Did you actually install ubuntu on to a virtual machine? or did you just download someone's virtual machine with ubuntu already installed? If the former, ubuntu should have asked you to create a password during the install. If the latter, ask the person that created that virtual machine image.

I installed Ubuntu to a virtual machine per the instructions provided however I never remember a prompt for a username/password. Maybe I should just try to re-install it?

I used VMWARE to test a XPx64 slipstream, MANY times. I only had to use a password to get into XP because I told it to use one for the Administrator account.

But that was part of the slipstream process, not anything to do with VMWARE itself.
