Ubuntu in VirtualBox on Vista

Hello all,

I recently installed Ubuntu inside of a virtualbox on my windows vista laptop.

I was hoping to find some other people that have used virtualbox before as I can make the window go fullscreen, but the Ubuntu desktop is still only 800x600. I can not find out how to resize the resolution under Ubuntu.

It is currently running fine, except I cannot go fullscreen. I use Yod'm 3D to create the desktop cube for Vista and would like Ubuntu to run on one of the multiple desktop in the fullscreen mode.

Any help or suggestions for future operating systems would be appreciated.

I know when you run Windows inside a VM system there are drivers that get loaded so that you've got graphic support for more than base mode vga (well more than 800x600 anyway).

I've nevered tried with Linux before (my use for Linux is Trixbox VOIP server that runs headless and admined through a web browser) but would guess you need to load some device drivers.

Though you best bet might be to get a some software to connect to the Xserver on your Ubuntu VM (after all that's how X-windows was in originally used - you had the Xserver running on the host and then the clients connecting remotely). That way you get full screen etc.

From everything I've heard/read, Vista is just not too big with the Linux VM. (For obvious reasons.) Also, you might have better luck with VMware than Vbox (though I haven't use either in Vista.)

Of course, the problem could be you're trying to use Ubuntu. I would suggest that crap to my worst enemy. It's so bleeding-edge and bloated, I can easily see why it wouldn't work. Try a lighter distro like plain Debian, or Slack or something. (I always have to put the Slack in there. :o )

Or you could forgo the VM and just try Knoppix. It's a perfectly good alternative.
