The new docking systems are supposed to represent a radical shift in thinking. Resource allocation becomes much easier. And even transport between multiple ships might be safer with a "wired" connection.
It looks like Jupiter Station was put together from old saucers. And fans have speculated that saucer separation is a way to transport station segments. So while there is a standard kit of parts, the internal uses can be greatly different from one hull to the next.
