U.S.S. Protector!? New WIP

Killer1021a

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Hey guys, This isn't exactly trek, but I'm going to force it to be by changing some story lines, A federation vessel encounters a disabled borg cube and scans there data base for any information that they can use to develop weapons against the borg. Amongst this data a curious group of scientists discovers designs for a recently encountered ship and petition starfleet to modify and use these plans to build there own vessel. So, i know its EXTREMELY rough right now, only about 2 hours on it. So here she is, The Protector 3 :D

I wanted to go ahead and get everyones thoughts on this so far. I love the movie galaxy quest and havent seen anything done with it in a while so i figured why not, haha. I actually think i'm going to restart production tomorrow and see what happens when i actually try hard on it. Anyone have good plans on this thing? I had some somewhere... But i think i lost them, or there on the desk top. Help MadMan? I know you have them :P

Well, the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the second pic was "Galaxy Quest" without actually reading any of your post, so I'd say you're off to a good start.

I hope no one reams me here. But I actually really like the Protector. It was a neat design. So I'm looking forward to seeing this built up here! :)

The Protector is a really neat solution to the problem of making a Trek-like ship without actually using the saucer/nacelles route that would have been too heavy handed. The saucer shape and nacelles are suggested by the rounded extensions, while the main body is a ringer for the Ent's secondary hull. Very neat.

You know I dont think I've heard a Trek fan actually say a bad word about Galaxy Quest? You'd think it would have annoyed some TOS fan to the point of a rant, given the subject matter.

Hey Everyone, I decided to completely restart, and i like what i have so far, sure i still have a long way to go, but hat do you think?

I know it doesn't look exactly like the protector, but its not supposed too. so whats everyone think so far?

That's awesome!

I'm still not too sure about that deck on top... I think it would look more streamlined it is was curved more towards the sides.

You're going to have to texture this one...

Yeah, I'm with the rest of them on not liking the upper deck. The front section is rather simplistic and looks like a Lego brick, and I think it goes rather too far along the spine.

So I've Changed Alot Lately, Here Are Some Later Updates, From The Same 3 Angles As Above So You Can Compare. Thoughts?

Dont Be Shy! Open To Any Thoughts

I've always gotten the impression that, as far as the movie's in-universe "behind the scenes" went, the original Protector model used vintage electric shavers for the engines. The engine grill texture on the "real ship" and the engines' almond cross-section always made me think of old electric razors.

Yeah, i get that feeling too, and when i make the textures for the engines they'll include some of that look with it, i just have colors in there for now to tell the difference between things.
