I must express my skepticism for tomorrow's episode. The song choices don't seem to mesh very well with the dance styles, and I loathe the team dances. Here are my thoughts and predictions:
Karina Smirnoff and JR Martinez Tango to Ghost Busters by Ray Parker Jr: 27 points
Comments: WTF? I don't get how you can do a Tango to that song, but I suppose with JR's inherent ability Karina will be able to choreograph something fun.
Derek Hough and Ricki Lake Paso Doble to Sweet Dreams by Beyonce: 26 points
Comments: Derek is the best at everything! Seriously, watching him in this competition is like watching Michael Jordan getting invited to a pick-up game. But Ricki is not as sparkling a personality as I expected coming into the season. She's just fine, but she'd be gone by now if she were with any other pro. This dance will be excellent, but not contain that wow factor that I look for. Also, I have not been overly impressed with Derek's costume choices this season. They are adequate but lack the flair I am used to seeing. I predict they will trail Karina and JR ever so slightly.
Tristan McMannus and Nancy Grace Jive to Devil Went Down to Georgia by Charlie Daniels Band: 25 points
Comments: Are they trying to kill Nancy? The Jive is such a technical dance and I guess the song will go okay with the dance style but how is Tristan going to choreo something slow enough that Nancy can follow while staying in sync with the music? The judges are pretty kind to Nancy, and maybe after this week she will put more faith into Tristan’s abilities. My understanding is that she actually has a very large voting fanbase, so even if I’m wrong and she tanks tomorrow she’ll stick around.
Cheryl Burke and Rob Kardashian Tango to The Addams Family theme song: 25 points
Comments: I can picture this. This will be okay. Unremarkable. Not terrible. The judges will agree on all these points and Carrie will gush about him becoming a man.
Maks Chmerkovsky and Hope Solo Samba to Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon: 25 points
Comments: Wait, I thought Maks and Hope already did a Samba? Oh, that’s right, they did a Cha-Cha that was basically a Samba. I think that now in the storyboards they will reward Hope’s journey with a decent score. Maks is a strong choreographer, and he will set this up with a traditional style to keep himself and Hope from being in any real danger of being eliminated.
Kym Johnson and David Arquette Cha-Cha to Abracdabra by The Steve Miller Band: 25 points
Comments: The Cha-Cha is one of Kym’s weakest dance types, and David has been only middling on his dances. Sort of like Hope only less attractive. You know what? I am biased against him and can’t even pretend to be objective. I kind of liked him before the season started but now he just annoys me. I can’t stand the vein that throbs in his forehead, and when he talks he sounds like Bobcat Goldwaithe. Only you know what? When Bobcat does it it is an act, but David’s just really like that. Bleagh. I don’t know if he’ll go home on Tuesday though. I think it is between Kym/David and Cheryl/Rob. Both are top-notch female pros with less than top-notch stars so who knows.
Prediction of total points awarded: 152 (not including the team dances which always get 8s and 9s.)
